A funny thing happened on the way to work today.....

Came around a corner on the "farm to market road" and there were several goats, happily munching in the front garden of a farm house. One looked up at me with a mouthful and had the funniest grin..... This was about 6:20am, I would have loved to stick around and see the look on the farmer's face when he found them!

This kind of stuff is funny when it happens to someone else. Years ago I had two goats who had a problem staying in the fenced area. After I don't know how many attempts to keep them enclosed, they went to ther eternal rest after eating almost everything in the herb and salad garden.

I can guarantee you that the look on the farmer's face will not be a big smile, unless the garden is done for the year.

Reminds me of looking out the kitchen window(more than once) to see the goats happily eating my young fruit trees. You can believe when they saw me coming they ran back for the pasture where they belonged! I finally got smart and secured that gate by wrapping a tie-down around it and clipping it, so that if they lifted the latch, they were still stuck;)

This happened to me and we did not think it funny at the time but every year we think about it and laugh. Our goats got out and got into our garden of sweet corn. They ate the whole plant down to the roots. We got an electric fence to put around the garden from then on.

Do not take this the wrong way,I bet you would have made someones day a good one if you would have stopped and helped, maybe just honked the horn alot. I know I have been ever so grateful when someone lets me know an animal is out.I guess I am just in one of those moods but it seems rude to get pleasure out of a day thing.

Renee, I agree with you! Out here once in awhile someones cows get loose and, as good neighbors, we stop and help. Or the time my DD's horses were loose and a neighbor stopped and helped my DH round them up!

Try driving over a short hill at 60 miles per hour, and finding an entire herd of market ready hogs on the road.

Poor pigs ripped the exhaust system clean off the old Impala!

Spent the next three hours chasing pigs all over the neighborhood.

Heck of a night.

DH had a time of it with the dogs about a week ago - seems that about half a dozen long horn cattle were loose and cruising the neighborhood! The idjit dogs took it upon themselves to "herd" them (as if the dogs would know what to do with them if the cattle consented to be herded!) and hubby was terrified that the dogs would piss one of them off and get herself skewered. All ends well, though. Hubby got the dogs in and the cattle wandered off to seek their next adventure. Don't know where they live - we can hear them every now and then, but they're in the direction of the neighborhood that we just never have any call to head towards. Fun and games.
