Anthrax Spores Found in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS –– Anthrax spores were found on a piece of postal equipment sent to an Indianapolis center for cleaning from a contaminated mail processing center in Washington, Gov. Frank O'Bannon said Wednesday.

One out of 44 tests on equipment at the Critical Parts Center was positive, O'Bannon said. It was not immediately clear how many pieces of equipment were tested or how many were from Washington.

The governor said no sign of infection had been found on the 103 people who work at the facility.

"The exposure was very limited. At this level of exposure anthrax is not a threat to human health in Indiana," O'Bannon said.

The Critical Parts Center near the Indianapolis International Airport was closed Oct. 23 and testing at the site was conducted Friday.
