Big white edible sunflower seeds - who sent them?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have only a couple of suspects, but my record keeping is dreadful, and is likely to remain so forever. Nonetheless, one of you wonderful folks (and likely a foxy chick) sent me some large white sunflower seeds last year. They were wonderful, and I went so far as to protect them from the "birds of the field" with netting. So far, so good. I then put the seed heads in a "secure" place to dry. WRONG!! Somehow the free range chickens broke in to the greenhouse and devoured almost all of them. I have about 20 possibly viable small seeds left, but I am not confident. Please, if you are able, send me some more seeds. Thank you, thank you, thank you! GL!

I have visions of your renegade chickens planning a break-in to devour illicit sunflower seeds. I'll be chuckling all afternoon!

I had the same thing happen!! You think your seeds are safe in the greenhouse(at least you can remember where you put them!) and it seems like the chickens know where they are. Before I knew it, they had even ruined several pot plants and some herbs, but ate every seed they could get into!! Lucky none had been treated!! So much for my stash!! susie

"chickens broke in to the greenhouse" LOL, That's funny.

Susie, don't you mean "potted plants".

Reminds me of when my son was 8 he dug up some worms to go fishing with. Grandpa said he would pick him up early in the morning. Well he placed the coffee can by the barn where it would be out of the sun and went to bed......guess who was earlier getting up then Grandpa. The darn chickens found his worms and had breakfast. Good thing those hens scattered when my son came out of the house!! Denise PS Suzy I hope you meant "potted" plants!
