Today, November 1, we members of the Catholic Church family celebrate the Solemnity of All Saints, a holy day of obligation on which we honor all saints, known and unknown by name.
We also honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- saints whose souls are now in heaven:

St. Benignus of Dijon (Greek, missionary to France, martyred in 3rd century by being clubbed with an iron bar)
St. Caesarius and Julian (African, deacon and priest, martyred by being drowned in a sack off Italy)
Sts. Cyrenia and Juliana (martyred by burning in 306 in Asia Minor [Turkey])
St. Germanus of Montfort (French, Benedictine prior, hermit, d. 1000)
St. Jerome Hermosilla (Spanish, Dominican missionary priest in Philippines and Vietnam, bishop, tortured and martyred by beheading in 1861 [canonized 1988])

Bl. Nuņo of St. Mary [Nuņo Alvares Pereira] (Portuguese, nobleman, heroic soldier, widower, Carmelite brother, beggar, d. 1431)

St. Mary the Slave (Roman, tortured slave girl, virgin, c. 300)
St. Maturinus of Sens [Mathurin] (French, priest, d. 388)
St. Pabiali of Wales (Welsh, c. 6th century)
St. Salaun of Brittany (French, pauper, mystic, d. 1358)
St. Severinus of Tivoli (Italian, Benedictine hermit, c. 699)
St. Vigor of Bayeux [Vigeur] (French, hermit, bishop, c. 537)
