A neighbor of mine has recently passed away and his estate is being auctioned off. I'm interested in the tractor and would like to know if anyone has any idea what an Allis Chalmers tractor might be worth. It is a 185 diesel with wide front end, dual hydraulics, about 3000 hours. It has an end loader, if they sell it separate or not I am not sure, but it goes on the tractor. It is mechanically OK, so they say. I have no knowledge of Allis Chalmers tractors, does anyone have one or does anyone have any idea what this might be worth? Thanks in advance for all your help. Scott from Illinois.

Scott check out www.allischalmers.com they have a discussion type forum where you may ask questions and there is a archive of tractor adds where you may be able to compare similar machines.My allis is a 1954 wd45 so I have no clue to the value of the one you are looking at .I have seen bigger tractors at auctions go for a much better price than say a compact or smaller type.everybody wants the smaller ones around here for their hobby farms .Good luck Dave

Approx $8500 - depending on condition. Great tractor - I had one once. Very spunky engine.

That tractor was manufactured from 1970 through 1981. Any idea what year it is. That could make quite a difference as you can well imagine. If you don't know the year I can get it from the serial number if you care to email me with it. With that I can at least get you an average price on it.

Odds are they'll sell the loader with the tractor. As to buying the loader I've found two types of tractor owners- Those who have a loader and love it and those who don't have one and wish they did.

My farm equipment price guide shows an advertised price for a 70 of $7.998 going up to an 81 at $14,520. Average auction prices ranged from a low of $3.100 to a high of $7,300 with the average of $5,141. Bear in mind those at auctions are generally not in as good of condition as those which change hands through a private sale.

For the serial number look at the front of torque housing flange on either side. The lower the number, the older the tractor is.

The front end loader would enhance the value considerably.

If you know where he got the tractor serviced, ask them their opinion of its mechanical condition.

You might try looking into www.yesterdaystractors.com. They have forums dedicated to individual brands of tractors and a great auction site where you may find one or two for sale.
