How can I learn chord changes without taking lessons?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Everything About Teaching and Learning the Piano : One Thread

I'm 58 years old and have been playing by ear since I was 9. About 2 years ago I was playing in a Bar for a friend. When I was done, a guy sitting at a table said," You need about 20 hours of lessons so you know the right changes". That guy was Paul Bley. Can I learn from a book or tapes or on line? I am not good at reading music. It takes me for ever.

Try New School of American Music at http://www.pianofun.com/index.html. they have the books and tapes you need. I have the opposite problem trying to play by ear.
