Pre-schoolers

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

As many of you know, I volunteer teach a pre-school/story time at our local library. I love to do this, but thinking up craft ideas is sometimes hard for me. does anyone have any good ideas, that don't cost much money, that 3-5 year olds can accomplish without much help????

Last week they each made their own home-made pizza. That was really fun to the kids. I even had one Mom who had never made pizza herself either, so she really enjoyed it too. The kids each ate just one piece of their pizza, and then they could take the rest home for their families to eat! This was a fun activity. Usually around Christmas I let them decorate their own sugar cookies, with differnt colors of icing and sprinkles. This gets pretty messy, but they love to do it!!

I saw part of a program on tv the other day where they were making bread with pre-schoolers! Each had his own little lump of dough to shape, and they actually baked them in a toaster over(wouldn't have thought that would work) and enjoyed them for snacktime!

Melissa, I am one of our Vaction Bible School directors at my church. For the last 2 years I have been in charge of crafts(for 600+children ages 1-6th grade!!!). I have tons of ideas and samples in our VBS store room. If you wanted I could go through and make directions and maybe pictures for you and send them to you in the mail. We have everything from handprint plaques to bird or squirrel feeders. And believe me, all are cheap.!

Micheale that sounds great, but I'm afraid it would be a lot of work for you!! I really don't want to add any more to your busy life, I really appreciate the thought!!!!

There are tons of great sites on the internet! Am I allowed to post websites on here? If not I could e-mail them to you personally. I love crafts that use things like empty TP rolls and other "trash". For halloween we made bats that are still hanging from our celing fans. EASY AND CHEAP! I have several places bookmarked. Let me know if I can post them or should send them directly to you!

Thanks Melissa, here are some of my favorite sites! www.dltk-kids.com www.underfives.co.uk www.preschoolrainbow.org www.beritsbest.com

Sorry, I don't know how to format it so you can just click on the link. My favorite is the dltk-kids one. Very easy to navigate. The last one is a site that ranks lots of different sites, so if you go there, you have the chance to pick and choose from a whole aray of places. Good luck and share with us what your doing! It would be nice for us to exchange great ideas for kid crafts!

Hello Melissa, We use to go to the library for story time. A person would come dressed as the character of the story she was reading and sometimes shw would bring costumes and crafts and stuff like that for the kids to interact with! It was fun, even for me as a parent. Sincerely, Ernest
