About online stores... Once and for all...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hello everyone,

Once and for all... IS www.allvcd.com a reputable online store or not?! I've read in 2 or 3 archives here about the said store being a dodgy company. What's the real story behind all the bad-mouthing?

Yesterday, I emailed www.allvcd.com to ask about their shipping policy and got a reply within an hour, I think -- quite speedy really -- and I got answers to my questions. Today, just as I'm about to order the Star Wars Trilogy box set, the site is apparently unavailble... it has been so for nearly 10 hours now, I think! I'm not sure if it's just the ISP or the site itself that's playing-up.

What about www.coolvcd.com? I emailed them "several" hours ago to ask one question and I still haven't gotten an answer yet.

Where should I order my SW: Trilogy box set?

Thanks in advance.

Isaac

www.allvcds.com is totally ethical. I've ordered from them several times and gotten terrific service. They only sell legitimate VCDs, not bootlegs. You will not regret doing business from them. I have also found www.getvcds.com to be a good site to deal with. Another one I liked was www.vcdgallery.com, but unlike www.allvcds.com and www.getvcds.com, VCDgallery does not ship by FedEX but instead uses airmail. You'll wait a few weeks to get your stuff from them, whereas you'll literally get it in days from the other 2 sites. I don't know anything about www.coolvcd.com, but I can personally vouch for the 3 sites I mentioned. I am a bit surprised to hear you say that you found them being bad-mouthed as I've never had any problems. They even put a customs form in the shipment that states that what you are buying is legal to sell to you and that they certify that it contains nothing advocating the overthrow of the US government or something like that. Competitors might trash talk them. Also, if you do something like buy 20 or more copies of the Star Wars Trilogy, well, you might have problems with US customs that have nothing to do with Allvcd, but if you are just buying one copy you should have zero problems with them or US customs. Well, I'm assuming you're in the US. I can't offer customs advice for other countries.

Jason, thanks for the reply. One last thing, can you confirm that the www.allvcd.com site is down? It's nearly 12 hours now and I still can't access the site.

Thanks again.

I confirm that it's still down :-( However, www.getvcds.com has it for $26.99 and they ship by FedEX, so you could order it today and maybe get it by Friday if you live in the US. If you live outside of North America, it might take you less or more time to get it, depending on where you live.

Hi,

Our site was down due to ISP lease line interruption for nearly 20 hours. It is now up and running.

Hello from VCD Gallery.
Would just like to clarify a point made by our friend, Jason Shumate, in his post above. VCD Gallery do ship by Fedex (at no extra shipping charge) for orders with VCDs worth $30 or more. Only orders that are less than $30 go by air mail.
Details of VCD Gallery's shipping info may be found here.
Thank you and best wishes.
