Black Widows under the Treehouse!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Heya Everyone!

I have a little nook under the slats of my treehouse which we have closed up with lattice work. We just swept the dirt, and there are still many rocks and dark areas within this nook.

I decited to clean this place out, maybe put a potters wheel in it, and I need to know if there are any herbs, plants, organic sprays, SOMETHING I can use to repell these beauties. I love the spiders, but I really don't look forward to accidently being bit by my folly. Anything? I was thinking the Mantis', but I live in SoCa. Do they live here? (Ignorant with the mantis)

Praying mantis live in all parts of calif. Black widows will be going dormant in the next couple of weeks.eucalpitus leaves might help to keep them away.

Black widows are a relative of the Australian redback spider, and a mulch of eucalyptus leaves (unnatural though it is, since eucalypts are evergreens) makes an ideal home for redbacks.
