Wadsworth takes charge at Oldham

Former Newcastle and Southampton coach Mick Wadsworth has been appointed the new head coach of Second Division Oldham. Wadsworth, who left Southampton when Stuart Gray was replaced by Gordon Strachan, has been installed as Andy Ritchie's successor. Ritchie refused the position of director of football when the club asked him to take a back-seat role.

Speaking to Oldham FC's website, Wadsworth said: "This appointment offers a terrific opportunity and challenge. "I have known and been a friend of the club for some 15 years. It is my intention to work as a team to move the club forward and make us successful as soon as possible. However, we are building something to last. Patience and a rugged determination will be a necessity from all concerned."

Wadsworth worked under Bobby Robson both at Newcastle and with England at Italia 90 In addition he has taken charge of the International teams at both Youth and U-21 levels. He also has experience of success in the lower divisions managing Carlisle to the Division Three Championship in 1994/5.

Chris Moore, Chairman of Oldham Athletic Football Club said: "We are delighted with the appointment of Mick. He represents the dawning of a new era at the Club. "He comes with a first class pedigree that is arguably second to none. Everyone at the Club is relishing the future."
