'Dogs tuck into a million mobiles' - survey

Researchers have concluded dogs have eaten at least one million mobile phones in recent years.

It is estimated that a further three million mobiles have met their end after owners left them on top of cars.

Another three million are thought to have been broken by children and some 300,000 left on beaches.

An estimated 10 million phones have been broken after being dropped out of a pocket or bag and around eight million are thought to have been lost in public places.

Around seven million are estimated to have been stolen, another seven million dropped into water and at least four million dropped "from a great height".

A total of 2,000 mobile phone users across the UK were questioned for the MORI poll on behalf of British Gas Communications.

They were asked if they had ever "lost or broken your mobile phone and how did this happen?".

The highest number of people (33%) said they had at some point broken their phone after dropping it from their bag or pocket.

Of those questioned 9% said they had broken a phone by leaving it on a car roof, 4% said "the dog ate it" and 1% said they had left it on the beach.

There are an estimated 30 million mobile phone users in the UK, suggesting that in total around 1.2 million have had their phone chewed up by their dog.

300,000 at the beach!!! I would have at least found one to use to call home for free. We are really pigs if this is true. Is that just the UK?

If we can't keep them safe we don't deserve them.

(and, yeah, I really have an AOL account -which I love-and pay for....maybe this post won't make it...)

LOL! The forum is password-free at this point, but if we get invaded by trolls, well, we'll see. If you have a record of courteous posts, we can make exceptions.

P.S. I think this is just the UK, bearing in mind that almost every child in the UK has a cell phone. About half the population has a cell phone.

I guess dogs are not very good at using a cell phone and destroy it in the attempt. Cats are much better at this. I have seen videos on TV of cats using phones to call their humans about food. Meow mix is their favorite it seems.
