Today, October 9, we members of the Catholic Church family celebrate the Feast of the Dedication of the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome. This ancient house of God (not the Basilica of St. Peter) is the catheral church of the Bishop of Rome (the pope).
We also honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- saints whose souls are now in heaven:

St. Benignus [Benen] (Irish, disciple of [and episcopal successor to] St. Patrick, abbot, bishop, d. 457)
Bl. George Napper (English, priest, martyred in 1610]
Bl. Helen of Veszprem [Ilona] (Hungarian, Dominican nun, stigmatist, c. 1270)
St. Agrippinus of Naples (Italian, bishop, c. 3rd century)
St. Alexander of Salonica (Greek, martyred in 4th century)
Sts. Eustolia and Sopatra (from Asia Minor [Turkish], virgins, 7th century)
St. Orestes (Cappadocian [Turkish], tortured and martyred in 304)
St. Pabo (Scottish, soldier, monk, c. 510)
St. Ursinus of Bourges [Ursin] (French, bishop, 3rd century)
St. Vitonus of Verdun [Vanne] (French, monk, bishop, c. 525)

If you have anything to share about these holy people, please reply now -- biographical episodes, prayers through their intercession, the fact that one is your patron saint -- whatever moves you. If you are interested in one of these saints and want to find out more about him/her, please ask. Information is sometimes available on the Internet.

All you holy men and women, saints of God, pray for us.
God bless you.
John

David S,
I thought you might ask about him! There seems to be some uncertainty with St. Theodore. The two sources that I use the most both think that the same man may be honored under two different "surnames" on two different dates. The other date is February 7. So I just decided I would mention St. Theodore on 02/07/2002.

[CORRECTION: Date in first message should be November 9.]

My patron saint is st. Eustolia and I was named after her. I have long lamented the fact that this was my name however as i got older i have begun to embrace it.

Are there any other Eustolias out there and does anyone know anything motre about them than that they were virgin saints??
