disc and plow for 1941 farmall M

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I was wanting to know if there are any countrysiders in northern Alabama that may have a disc or a plow (draw bar) that would fit a 1941 farmall M. I have 40 acres and just recently bought my first tractor. It's old, but runs great! Unfortunatly implements are not easy to find for it. Especially since it does not have a 3 point hitch. Anyone who would like to sell these things (cheap) please drop me a line.

Thanks,

Jeff Pirkey

Howdy Jeff!

Not much of anything is really going to be cheap for a 50 year old antique tractor, but Farmalls are among the most reasonably priced.

They haven't been "Deered" yet thank goodness!

Go to your local feed store and find out when any upcoming tractor shows are. Usually a flyer gets posted on their "Notice" board. There is always a big one in Fayetteville every year, and the Alabama Jubilee at Point Mallard has lots of tractors also.

Also on Hwy 72 near Athens there is a HUGE tractor and implement boneyard...can't miss it.

Congratulations, Farmall H and M were two of the most rugged farm tractors ever. I still remember grandpa's Super-H and dad's Super-M. Even though these are old, there are still kits to add a 3-point hitch to them or you can weld up you own if you are handy. I measured hitch on friends modern tractor and welded up one for my old Allis WD. Making my own cost me less than $25, a kit might be a few hundred dollars. Might be good idea either way if you want to use any modern equipment with them. If not then you shouldnt have that much of a problem finding a 2 or 3 bottom trailing type plow in somebody's back fence row. Put an ad in local shopper. just be aware it takes lot more room to turn such a machine. In other words probably not best choice to plow a fenced garden. These plows came in two styles. One with a trip lift for non hydraulic tractors and one with hydraulic cylinder to raise and lower. The trip/cam lift ones work fine to plow a field, but need travel space for the mechanism to lift plow out of ground so not good for close quarter work. Also these plows can be converted to hydraulic cylinder.

Might mention there are also plans for sale on internet to make a sort of 3-point hitch cart so some 3pt equipment can be pulled with either 4wd jeep type vehicles or antique tractors that owners dont want to modify. I can look up website if you are interested.
