A song running through my head!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

I have a verse of a song going through my head. It started in the middle of the night and I can't remember the name of it! Help!!!! It goes "Let there be peace on earth and let it began with me". That's all! Does anyone have a clue as to what the name it and where did it come from? I hate it when a song will run like that over and over in my head. Does anyone have a cure?

I have that on a Vince Gill Christmas tape, I believe it's called "Let There Be Peace on Earth" I've heard it other places.

Thank goodness, I'm not going bonkers! I don't recall ever hearing the song by Vince or anyone else. I wonder how it started going through my silghtly senile brain like that!

Ardie, that happens to me a lot. Just wake up with a song running through my head. Do you think it comes with our age?? :>)

Ardie--That song is in the Catholic hymn book. We sung "Let There Be Peace On Earth" at the special Mass that our church had for 9/11. I'm not sure who wrote it or what the song's origins are, but I could look on Sunday for you. What bugs me is when I get a song in my head that is downright silly or stupid, like "Midnight at the Oasis, Put your camel to bed"!

Ardie, Ilove that song!! "Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me. Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be! With God as our Father, brothers all are we, let me walk with my brother in perfect harmony." That is all I can remember from my head, but I have a hymn book in my bedroom, so let me know if you don't find it elsewhere.

Ardie, it could be much worse. I once got the "I love you, you love me" Barnie song stuck in my head! AAARRRRGGGHHH! What torture!

I think I know the rest after what Melissa knows. Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now, with every step I take, let this be my solemn vow. To take each moment, and live each moment, in peace eternally. Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. I am not catholic, but went to a catholic school and it is amazing what is embedded in my brain by those nuns with yardsticks cracking! :) Jennifer

We sang that song in our Christmas program at PUBLIC school when I was a kid. I was just commenting to my hubby yesterday that I forgot the words. Go figure!
