'nother problem

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

O.K. I've got another question. Have ya'll noticed that I have a lot of problems? Most of them aren't very big but collectively, they really get to me. Maybe it's just me, but it SEEMS like everytime I heat something to eat in the microwave that it's hot when I take it out. Good! That's the results I was looking for. For which I was looking? But, by the time I get it to the table and after I take a bite or two, it's cooled off again. I heat it on the stove or oven and it stays hot until I finish eating. Is it just me or is this an inherent problem with microwaves? We've only had one for, probably 30 years and I'm just getting around to trying to solve this problem. Not the same microwave. Also, is it a law that whatever you put in the microwave and no matter where you put it, it has to remain in the back of the microwave when it finally stops? I stand in the front of the microwave and make bets with myself as to whether it's going to end up in the front or back when it's finished. I'm into myself for a lot of money! I keep betting "front"!

If I'm the only one having this problem then maybe Joy will delete it quickly so I won't feel so foolish.

I put this question under Kitchen Science. I think this is something that needs serious study.

Seems to me that you oughta eat faster when you first put your food on the table :-)!! I don't own a microwave, so I don't uderstand how they work...really!

Well, Wildman, I agree with you about the food not staying hot when it comes out of the microwave. I noticed this years ago too. It makes one suspicious, doesn't it? Like this is not REAL heat, its virtual heat or somesuch, and only lasts as long as you think about it. I do use the microwave some for reheating things, but never to cook with, except that time about 20 years ago when we got our first one and I tried to cook a chicken in it......even the dogs wouldnt touch it. Don't trust it anyway.

Now this other problem you have, I can't figure this one out at all. What are you talking about anyhow? Does your food move around from front to back within the oven while its heating? Now I have a turntable in mine, like most of em, so my plate will end up in the middle of the oven just like when I put it there. Are you saying that yours leaps to the back of the oven? This is confusin to me.

You better help me out understandin this one; if perchance you cannot explain it well enough to be understood be those of us to whom you are doin the explainin, maybe you should consider that its a really bad idea to be standing in FRONT of your nuker in the first place. Now me, I've brought my kids up to understand that when you close that door and press the buttons, you get yourself far away from that appliance till it dings, preferably the other side of the house. You could be exposing things you don't wanna expose to things you dont want them exposed to. You could be cookin things you didn't intend to cook. Just some friendly advice; you might wanna think about it.

Peace,

Earthmama, too funny! Maybe I'm swelling up because I stand too close to the microwave? And shriveling up at the same time? You're a scary woman!

I can't believe I didn't make myself clear. But you're right, I didn't. I really, really try but sometimes I don't succeed. I'll try again. It's so simple to see when I'm doing it. I usually just heat up a cup of something, coffee, tea, soup, etc. I put the cup in the front of the carousel and when the carousel stops my cup is in the back of the microwave. I always hate reaching to the back to drag it out. It doesn't matter where I put it when I start or how long I put it in for, it always ends up in the back! If it ends up in the front, then I know someone else put it in. I know they have safeties on them, so that when the doors opened then the microwave is SUPPOSE to shut off but what if it doesn't?

Marcia, Martha doesn't have a microwave either. Getting a little uppity aren't you? Flaunting the fact that you don't have one? Shame, shame, shame (ala Jim Nabors).

Diane, I liked "uderstand" better also. I liked it so much, in fact, that l didn't catch it! I would have if it had had two "d's"!

Enjoy

Put the item in the CENTER of the turntable. However, I put in a cup with the handle facing me, and it ends up away from when it stops.

As far as the heating goes, this is what I have noticed. Food or liquid seems to heat up on the TOP first. What is underneath doesn't heat as fast, so if you test the top, and it seems hot, the whole thing may not be. Hope that makes sense. What I do is stir the whole thing after the end of the heating cycle. Then I test it to see if it's hot enough. When I do this, and it IS hot enough after stirring, it doesn't cool off any faster than heating any other way!

Diane...Can you tell I had goats on the brain when I was posting??!

Aunty Em...I had to read your post three (I mean 3!!) times before I "uderstood" it!

Wildman...I DO have a convection oven. Does that count?? Please oh please, don't let me be like M.S. :-)!!!

We don't have a microwave carousel. But it IS pretty scary when I put food inside the microwave and it moves around anyway....usually up to the ceiling in little pieces! Or sometimes I'll go to put something in it and there's something *else* inside!! And the LED display is blinking "END...END...END..."!!! I gotta contact Art Bell about this one! Sheesh. He thinks crop circles are mysterious!

giggling......sheepish, you let me know how it manages to not only move around but jump up on the ceiling in little pieces. I always thought it was just mine ;>)
