Chronic burning like sensation in VMO area

I've suffered from PFS for many years. When I started PT about a year ago, I noticed that I began to develop a "tight" quad feeling, but I only had that when I did not have knee pain. It has been over a year now, and for the most part, I do not experience any knee pain, and almost never on the right knee any longer. I do, however, have a burning/tight sensation in my quad muscle (inner thigh area which is why I think it's the VMO) almost daily on the right leg. Stretching and massaging provides relief, but only as it is being done...meaning no lasting relief. Any suggestions would be really appreciated!
