game bird chicks in colder weather

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have a game bird hen whom I think will hatch some eggs soon, my question is should I leave the chicks with her or bring them in? Their in a small coop that has a three sided shelter top to bottom, will the hen keep them warm enough or do I need to keep them indoors? It gets in the high 20's to low 30's at night and very breezy. Thanks.

Your chicks will do better if left with the mother, however the cold breezy weather could be a problem. We keep quail, and they are very delicate, even under good conditions. I would bring the mother and chicks in out of the weather.

What kind of game hen do you have? When did she begin sitting, and on how many eggs?
