Don't go get "malled" today, keep your sanity, and tell me that if you came home from a restaurant and became very ill, it was most likely because you had contact with____________________?

Answers

Unwashed salad and undercooked meat, food kept below safe temperatures and public toilets.

These are usually our experiences, sad to say

Hope you all had a good thanksgiving

pre-holiday hype?

I'll guess salad, especially with sprouts. I only eat home grown sprouts because the risk is so high.

Sam and Ella...A student of mine was once sick and in the hospital when I visited him and asked what was the matter...he replied,"I got Sam and Ella when I was eating." He said it so distinctly, his mom and I had to laugh as if the germs that made him sick had individual given names.

(1)A lousy cook! (2) A cook who didn't wash his/her hands. (3) Germs from handling my food without washing my hands first. (4) Improperly prepared food.

It amazes me how many people don't wash their hands after using a public bathroom. Because I move slower than most, I see people not washing and I even hate to touch the door handle to leave the bathroom. Yuck!

Sick people. They are everywhere, and they never stay home. I can't abide going somewhere, doctor, store, restaurant, and being met by sick workers, and people sick everywhere. I should say I mean doctors lke eye-doctors, dentist etc...not general practitioners. If you are sick, STAY HOME!!!

-- Melissa (me@home.net), November 23, 2001.

I'm with Ardie and Melissa! I get so tired of running into sick people everywhere. First, I try to avoid them at all costs as per Mitch's suggestion - NOT SHOPPING. Last year I started keeping a pkg of baby wipes in the car along with a tiny bottle of that hand sanitizer stuff in my purse. Where I use it most often is after grocery shopping when I've used a cart that who knows how many sick people have handled. I clean my hands with the wipes and then use the sanitizer. And Ardie, I grab a paper towel (or use a kleenex out of my purse) to open the bathroom door! Or time my exit with someone who is entering just then.

Do I detect thread drift here, or are the puzzle sharks closing in?

The good news is that I just found a site with about 2,000 really HARD questions.

Is it cellmanilla..???

-- Robert Smith (snuffy@1st.net), November 23, 2001.

Mitch is in heaven now people!!!! 2000 questions should get us through next year for sure.

Come on Mitch, none of our answers are correct?????

New guess then, sick from spending too much money!

You,all WERE headed in the right direction...

Well, the guesses are slowing downso I guess its time for a boost, where would you find the highest concentration of other peoples germs in a resturant other than the restrooms?

-- mitch hearn (moopups@citlink.net), November 23, 2001.

Mitch, I'd guess the waitress station/food pick-up area as it would have the highest concentration of people and contact.

Definetly the salad bar..full of salmonella, e-coli and various viruses from folks sneezing, not washing their hands and other disgusting stuff..(not to mention the restaurant staff themselves) YUCK!..never touch the things myself.....

-- lesley (martchas@bellsouth.net), November 23, 2001.

Ohhhh... another thought... in the bus pans and garbage containment areas.

-- Gary in Indiana (gk6854@aol.com), November 23, 2001.

My guesses are the high chairs and booster seats for little kids, they NEVER wash those.

Sneeze guard on the salad bar.

The backs of chair and doorknobs where everyone puts their grubby hands.

Oh, the FILTHIEST place would be the cleaning cloth that cooks and waitresses use to smear germs around tables and counters.

We can find salmonella, various coli. bacterium, strep, staph ....a real soup pot full of nasty little monsters!

When my kids were little, I took dried baby wipes and added alcohol to the travel packet. I used one to open doors, wipe the shopping cart handle, their hands and tables at restaurants. The kid are all trained to not stick their fingers anywhere on their faces while in public, (use the back of your hands to scratch your nose) and to wash their hands as soon as we get home and several times throughout the day, the littlest one singing Happy Birthday while washing. We don't get sick anymore.

Your hovering real close, but there is this one special thing. I have never seen a food server clean this....

-- mitch hearn (moopups@citlink.net), November 23, 2001.

The menu????????

-- lesley (martchas@bellsouth.net), November 23, 2001.

O.K. Here is what happens, you walk in, the last seats that are available still has the previous diners plates and silverware which the food server is removing to the bus pans. Now the previous diner is an AIDS victim, carrying anthrax, and has a runny nose from the flu and just wiped his nose on a napkin. The food server pushes the bus cart back to the disposal area, seperates the napkin, plates and silverware, wipes their hands on a towel, then brings the same towel to your table, stopping to pick up the (yes, Lesley, who just chimed in) menus and puts them in your hand. Happy infections!

And after I read and reread I realized Roses answer is a gem that sounds like my dry humor.

Mitch, I believe you will be the sole reason for my sticking to my December budget......I may never eat out again! 8-þ

-- Lenette (kigervixen@webtv.net), November 23, 2001.

Well, i watched a lot of Oprah in my day, although she isn't known for having the most knowledge, just the biggest pay check. I think one of the worst things to catch germs from , is in the bathrooms. THe toilet seats. UHH!!!
