Rifle Discharges at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport

No One Injured In Mishap

GRAPEVINE, Texas -- A deer hunter's rifle was accidentally discharged at a Delta Air Lines ticket counter at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on Friday morning.

Airport spokeswoman Tina Sharp said the gun's owner was checking luggage for an elk-hunting trip, showing a ticket agent the weapon wasn't loaded. While the owner checked the bolt-action on the rifle, it discharged at about 7 a.m.

The bullet went through a window and landed in a planter. No one was injured and airport operations weren't interrupted.

Unloaded firearms may be brought onto planes as long as airline officials are notified and the weapons aren't loaded. (I didn't know that.... did you?)

Sharp said the Department of Public Safety decided not to file charges against the couple. The man had a permit for the rifle, she said.

The man and his wife were allowed to board a later flight.
