Croft vs Aeon- What a joke...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Aeon Flux : One Thread

Hey fellow Flux fanatics,

I've actually had people make comparisons between Aeon and Lara...

I just wanted to point out how hard it is for me to refrain from breaking something each time I see Lara Croft and the popularity they has gained. If anything, it shows the lack of intelligence out there with people who find Lara Croft more interesting than Aeon. Is there any comparison? Hell NO...

What is Lara Croft besides an Indian Jones knock off? Does Croft ever focus on social issues surrounding our world? Does Croft ever contain the extensive imagination and emotion found with Aeon? When do the themes of love, hate, submission, race, politics ever questioned with Croft? There is a simple answer to why Lara Croft has the popularity and Aeon doesn't...and it relates to modern society's overall mentality.. and not being able to identify a true work of art to that of sheer and utter filth. So stop with the damn movies and promotions. People, open your minds to a real woman of intrigue. Aeon is the heroine Lara can only ever dream of becoming...

What do you mean 'hyper' and 'wiggly'? I like that. The only other movie that satisfied my craving for that style was The Blair Witch. Good cameramen are expensive you know (wonder how they got all those camera batteries waaay out there in the woods).

If you feel this intense why haven't you posted before?

-- Barb e. (Suesuebeo9@cs.com), November 25, 2001.

That's an honest question, not being facetious. You sound familiar with the series.

I have been reading some of the comments on this site here and there for a while, but just haven't left any posts until recently. Yes I believe I have a very good understanding of Aeon Flux and all the episodes and I just can't understand how a show...this brilliant...is still not on the air. I know it's been a few years since Aeon has been on TV, and I'm just can't understand why ridiculous heroines like Zena or Croft are as popular as they are. It just makes me sick.

THANK YOU Ron S.atHotmail...etc.! Now, THIS guy GETS IT, !!

I'm just saying, you know? Because -- I mean, I'm Flummoxed...!

I LOVE IT when I'm Flummoxed like that.

I think he's making fun of you Ron. In a sarcastic Starbuck's sort of way.

-- JarJarBinks (mesaJarJarBinks69@hotmail.com), November 26, 2001.

Thanks there YamYam - HUH. Don't know what I'd do without smart people sure to second-guess, for my benefit or anybody else's, my er SENSE OF THE effingSARCASTIC I mean WTF! !

No I wasn't being funny about Ron's posts. I'm serious, and I don't mean to presume too much to thank anybody for having some balls saying something. I might not have the same attitude in certain regards, I'm sure. But, anyway fool guess what I might even. To wit: I meant exactly what I said, with regards to my own, previous posting and hope M.Seldszar (her/himself) should post again also.

Firstly, I am male..and it's not Mr.Seldszar....it's Ron (my name is posted by my e-mail address)

Secondly, I'll take your last post as a compliment. Like I mentioned earlier, I haven't had much of a chance to put up any posts before, but I'll make sure to add my two cents worth from now on.

BTW, pleasure to meet both of you (dangerboy and Jarjar)

Holy Lord. I just saw the Tomb Raider movie and it is REALLY REALLY bad. It's so inexplicably horrible in fact that it inspires slack- jawed awe. The camerawork is hyper and...."wiggly" so you can't tell what the fuck is going on. The script consists of witty exchanges like; Nerd:"Off to save save the universe again?" Lara:"Yup." You could poop a better script than this. I didn't expect great cinema, but how does celluloid torture like this get made?

-- Frostbite (krooks@agnesscott.edu), January 18, 2002.

I think watching Tomb Raider would cure you of that.

-- Frostbite (krooks@agnesscott.edu), January 21, 2002.

First...Tomb Raider was one of the worst movies I ever saw. The only reason anybody saw that movie was to watch Angelina Jolie shake her fake tits! If i want to see that I'll watch a porno, even those have better plots! Aeon Flux was the best show. She is not some girlie super hero who sometimes uses her looks to her advantage. She can kick serious *ss! she has so much more depth than the "trendy" Ms. Croft. To even comapre the two is proposterious!

-- Danyell (Goddess2envyNy@yahoo.com), January 23, 2002.

Oh c'mon. Like you don't like it when Aeon shakes HER fake tits. Now if they made a live action Aeon...sweeeet. What POA actress could best fill out a black leather bra and matching thong. NICE!

Hi there folks, I'm from germany thus I hope you can forgive me my not very good english - but since I saw Aeon Flux (happened just a few days ago, AEON is very very unpopular in germany) and I found out there're so many sites about her I thought I'd have to say something, too ... It's ridiculous to be so bothered about people who compare Aeon and Lara - even more ridiculous than doing that. As someone who understands Aeon one should also understand that her (or her makers) intentions are completly different from Lara's - so I can say without feeling ashamed, that I like both of them. Lara was created as a computergame character, an eye-catching bonus for a new engine, story never has been that important and such is the movie: a good-looking, acrobatic, action-thing. They never wanted to be esarnest, it's a remake of Indiejones with big tits, it'ss colourfull, it's entertainment and if I want to chill and do not think at all it's even good entertainment! Aeon is something completly different. She's a thoughtfull and sophisticated creation of an Artist, focusing on emotions, philosophics, politics, interhuman communications and so on - although she isn't less eye-catching, perhaps even more, than Lara. And I'm glad about her not becomeing more popular - it's hard to get anything about her in germany - but through this she'll never become a merchandising monster such as Lara is, and she'll stay trustworth in whatever her episodes tell about exactly this kind of (media-) society!

In response to Triple M...

You know Triple M, everything you said made sence except for the fact that you stated Croft is an "an eye-catching bonus for a new engine" and that "They never wanted to be esarnest, it's a remake of Indiejones with big tits, it'ss colourfull, it's entertainment and if I want to chill and do not think at all it's even good entertainment". I won't disagree with you, but you can't tell me there are no sexual implications in Aeon Flux nor that her outfit is simply for the sake of making a complex and interesting story. Even for those who enjoy to watch Aeon Flux for just her "animated sexiness" can appreciate her just as much as Croft. On top of that, Aeon episodes constantly have some implications of sex one way or another, unlike Croft, who despite her body, has shown no other sexiness to her.

I guess my arguement here, is that even if I was some lame individual intending on watching some brain dead show for the tits and sex (Baywatch comes to mind)...Aeon is just as apt for that type of audience as Croft is.

Triple M, you related Croft with "big-tits, colourful, indianjones like, good-looking, acrobatic and as an action-thing". Personally, those sound more like the qualities of Aeon Flux than Croft. So even if you take out the intriguing, suspenceful, intelligent, amazing story lines that Aeon Flux has, you still get one hot babe that makes Croft look like the pitiful and ridiculous character that she is.

-- Ron (Seldszar@hotmail.com), February 12, 2002.

They both fake characters so who cares which one is better. You can argue the intelligence and strength issue for both Lara and Aeon. The funny thing is your sentence "People, open your minds to a real woman of intrigue" when Aeon isn't even real. If Lara Croft has so many fans, stop being so bitter. Lara is a VIDEO GAME CHARACTER, not someone out to make a political difference in the world. I happen to find Lara a more interesting character than Aeon, but I didn't say better. I suppose I'm automatically unintelligent in your realm of thinking. In answer to your question, What is Lara Croft besides an Indian Jones knock off? Well, she's and Indiana Jones you can play. Playing through an adventure is a different thrill than watching it. Even Indy has a game that is a rip off of Tomb Raider. Anyways, I don't care anymore so I'm ending this.
