65mm F8 SA and Centre Filter

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Large format photography : One Thread

I have just bought a Schneider 65mm F8 SA with the centre filter. Do you use a centre filter like a grad and add it when you have set everything else up or is it something that stays permanently attached ?

I am using it for 5X4.

Thanks

Dave

It can get a little rough focusing such a short lens at f/11+1/2 (plus the light lost due to stopping down) - if you have a good darkcloth and a bright subject have at it. Since it's mounted in front of the lens adding it later doesn't affect the focus - most of the time I prefer doing just that.

I have the 47 xl and I definetely leave the central filter all the time. It protects the front element and I don't have to clean it and the inside side of the filter.
