Just getting over a blizzard here in SD. We got 10 inches total at our farm. Drifts are three to four feet high. Hello Winter.

That's great news since I will be driving alone from VA to Missouri Thursday! I had been hoping the weather would hold for my visit to our farm but no such luck. Virginia has had beautiful weather - 71 the last few days and some much needed rain last weekend. Is I-44 snow plowed fairly well? Never did this trip in winter without my husband.

It began sleeting for a few minutes here in northern AR last night around 9:30, although I was sort of wishing for a "ice/snow day" guess its just not going to happen. We dodged the bullet again! I'm new here to the mid-west, moved here from VA and so I am a bit leery about driving to work today with all the ridges and ice advisory. So far it appears according to the weather its not going to hit us. Oh well....

Daisy,..... I just got back from a trip to VA/VW 2 weeks ago. I am not sure about I44, but we took I40 and the driving may get tricky in the mountains, lots of mountains to get through. But I40 was a bit slow as we went through NC. and got closer to Raleigh. Good luck and have a safe trip.

It's pouring here/almost sleeting--already an inch on top of the more than 2 inches we've had the last couple of days and that on top of saturated ground. We're under a flood watch, and with much more rain our lane may be under water. Yesterday I slogged into the garden to harvest the leeks and some broccoli as I was afraid they'd drown. They'll keep better in the fridge than in the ground in this weather. It's times like these that I wish I'd moved my garden to higher ground. But I sure do appreciate our new, well-insulated house versus our drafty old cabin. With the woodstove going, it's so cozy; you hear bad weather, but you sure don't feel it. Be safe everyone who's getting this storm, especially those in line for snow.

I know it sounds crazy but I love when it 'snows/sleets or ices'! That way DH & I can stay home and be real 'homesteaders'! Our life seems so hectic sometimes that it takes a winter storm to slow us down and 'pull' us closer together. I even enjoyed it when we got 26" of snow 2 years ago. We did just fine and helped a few others out, too! So--- send a little winter weather my way! (last time I said that someone 'chewed me out'!) :~)! Stay safe! Oh, by the way it's gonna be 79* here today! ;(

It was sleeting here in Mtn View Mo last night but when I got up this morning everything was melted. They say it is going to be heavier today so we will see. I sent my husband to work with a sleeping bag, and a box of food and a change of clothes incase he has to stay over at work. He works about 45 miles away. Well see what happens. I know it seems kind of overboard to make him stay at work but I was widowed at 28 years old then lost my 17 year old daughter at 39 years old so I don't take any chances with my husband and son (friends say I am like a chicken with all her chicks kept under her wings LOL) and they tend to hummur me.

It is wet, windy, and VERY cold here in north TX. Things should be nicer this weekend when it gets back up to the 70's. Our family is really hoping for some snow for Christmas but we've had no such luck the last 11 years we've lived here.=)

They do work hard to keep I-44 open. It is after all, the main drug route from Mexico to Chicago and points East !

The forecast now is for heavy snow and ice in Southern Missouri starting tonight (Wednesday)....that's you.

The Missouri Highway Patrol offers a Winter phone report at 1-800-222- 6400.

You can visit their website, hard to do when you are on the road....

www.modot.state.mo.us.

Here is a link to the road conditions map they keep udated. http://www.modot.state.mo.us/roadcond/statemap.htm

I think we missed most of it here in Versailles,MO. Unless the wetness freezes on the roads and makes it slick in the am.

Yes they tend to keep I-44 open in Missouri very well. However the same is not true in Oklahoma. I remember driving in SW MO some years ago on I-44 day or two after heavy winter storm. Both lanes on I-44 open and traffic moving almost normal speed 60-65 mph. One lane completely dry other almost dry. Shoulders still covered with snow.

Then crossed the border at OKlahoma. It was like opening the door to another World. Both lanes snow packed and rutted like an old dirt road. Had to slow down to 30-35 mph. For years later are car had rattles and we always said it was due to that drive over the snow packed Will Rodgers turnpike (I-44). Oklahoma charges a toll for their roads and has one snowplow for the state.

James Tulsa,OK - but moving to MO next year!
