Quote of The Day

Department of That's Why They Call It War:

"Human rights watchdog Amnesty International has called for an urgent inquiry into the killing of hundreds of Taleban prisoners who staged an uprising near the Afghan city of Mazar-e-Sharif. "

--BBC report

Boo!

U.S. Marine Cpl. Michael Craig of Farington, Texas, part of Charlie Co. 1/1 of the 15th MEU (Marine Expeditionary Unit).

The Un-Reno: John Ashcroft let the world know yesterday that he tell the whining media-hadeen who he has in custody nor will he stop "inviting" them to chat. What part of "they want to kill us all" does Russ Feingold not understand? Here's Jerry Seper's rundown on Ashcroft's throwdown. And, don't forget - Ashcroft goes to the Hill today to say it one more time - they are trying to kill us all.

No More Miatas: The era of the Wimpmobile is over. What we'll all be wanting is one of these babies. It's a Combatt and it sounds like a Super Muscle Humvee complete with night vision technology for a no-headlight run through hostile suburbs with - according to the USA Today report - sensitive computer discs. The war can't last forever and we can get one used. Positively cool wheels.

Woodman, Spare That Tree: There ought to be a PETA for trees used to make paper. A wild eyed group of loony birds who would tie themselves to a tree when they hear that a totally wasteful book is being published. Bad enough we lost a few for Jeffrey Toobin's agonized report on how Gore won the election (published September 10th!!) - now they've slaughtered some oaks to print one Jim (Remember Me , Please") Jeffords ruminations on life as a turncoat.

Gotta Get A Gun: Here's a grisly report on the latest journalist to die in Afghanistan, Swedish TV4 journalist Ulf Stroemberg, 42. It does make one wonder why these civilians aren't armed to the teeth and sleeping with their guns. Who answers the door, as this fellow did in the middle of the night, without one?

Finally, Some Respect: Today's must-read is Rush Limbaugh's excellent article in - grab your socks - the Washington Post! As Andrew Sullivan comments today, the dumbest thing ever said about Rush is that he's dumb.

Geraldo Mid-life Crisis Update: For those of you who might have missed it and care - Geraldo's report yesterday had him standing on the side of a road in Kunduz watching a long line of men in pajamas walk by. The rest of the report was how he got to that place on the side of the road. Wadda ya want from a guy with a 23 inch waist - news you can use?

LDotter Note: Two important birthdays today - Dick Morris and Igor, the Ldot gopher. Greetings can be placed on the Support Thread - for Igor, of course. You are on your own with greetings for Morris.
