Our cabinets are

here. It's a very cold raw dreary day here, so I thought I'd tell you that we have our new kitchen cabinets. They're beautiful sitting on the floor here and there, and they'll be even more beautiful when they're hung. But, the drywall isn't quite finished yet and of course the paint isn't on the walls, but it sure is nice to have the cabinets. Actually Gary did hang one unit, he couldn't wait. I even put a few glasses in it.

Oops! I forgot to add that Jack and MIldred Bunyard from the forums came down this Sat. for a cookout and to help and Jack went with Gary and his brother to pick the cabinets up. I wish I had the energy that Mildred has, I could hang the cabinets myself.

I envy your cabinets even if they are on the floor- I'm cooking out of milk crates! It will be a loooong time before we get to cabinets! But, on the other hand, I do have finished drywall and paint on the walls, and I'm thankful for that. Cold and dreary here too.

Cooking out of milk crates isn't sonderful, but I've learned how to. I'm getting really good at cooking in the electric skillet. We do have one sink now.-terribly clogged, actually we have a whole bathroom, just not in one room.

Yea, it's an ugly day here too but how nice that you have your cabinets. Doing without surely makes you appreciate things, doesn't it? I remember when I finally got my cabinets up I was like a kid with a new toy!!! One thing for sure, this experience teaches you that you don't have to have all that stuff, doesn't it?

True Barb, we don't need all that stuff. I learned that during my homeless days. But to do the things that I love to do, cooking, baking, all those kitcheny homestead things, they sure help. I even got to the point of enjoying doing the dishes in the dishpans, but I'd rather have the sink hooked up. When I do get to unpack most of the boxes will be kitchen stuff or home canned stuff, next would be books.

Cindy,

I can just imagine your smiling face right now - and I don't even know what you look like :-)! I'm so happy for you!

Cindy,

we are trying to use the small bathroom in our tiny farmhouse as a kitchen while we are remodeling the real one. At the moment, we are replacing the outside wall and windows that once held the sink and cabinets. Sooooooo, we are without ourselves. I'm hoping to have the walls and windows done by Christmas, but the weather might have another idea in mind. It snowed today, so we couldn't break through the wall to do the window part. My hubby works fulltime and drives an hour each way, so time is precious for the remodeling these days.

Everyone keeps asking me where we will have Christmas if the kitchen isn't finished by then and I've already been offered to have the meal at my sister's down the road. But, it is so important to me to have it here, no matter what. This is our home and this is where I want to celebrate, even if the kitchen sink is out in the yard. Does that sound silly? It's hard making-do with the tiny bathroom sink, but I'm managing just fine. It really amazes me the things I really do need to deal with the food preps anyway.

Good luck on your project.

Iris

Iris,

That's is where my kitchen is now too. It's a joke around here that everyone keeps locking me out of my kitchen

Those little sinks are certainly hard to do dishes in, aren't they? I will have mine back before Christmas though. My husband believes he may be done this weekend (with the countertops and sink). Yea!!
