Brain drain'n and [preachin]

The days of our youth are gone mostly. Well except in our minds that is. Seems the older we get the more we dwell on those long ago days when we were just pups-easily excited over the smallest of things around us. Today not much is different for us old duffers. I STILL am excited each morning I am allowed to roll outta bed. Some folks might not appreciate the same things that I do but I'll be most of ya'll do. The very fact that I'm still alive and kickin is evidence that I'm still needed here for some reason that I may not understand but that's ok. I just am not in any hurry to "cash in" and "move out" to eternity. Too much work left to do here anyhow.

Select a nice straight hickory saplin about 1" at the base and about 6' tall. Cutt'r off at the ground and strip the limbs also. Peel the bark off entirely paying close attention to not nick the wood with the pocket knife. Cut to length and start whittling and shaping the saplin to the desired shape. Flat on the front and back sides of the New LONGBOW while leavin the handle or handhold round and full sized. Cut the end notches to hold the bowstring. After it's all shaped take a piece of broken glass and start scrapin the wood. Being very careful not to cut yourself--scrap the wood until it's smooth as ya'll want it. When it's completed mite scrounge around and try locating some paint. If the saplin was cut in the springtime and the sap is "up" it's best to lay the dude up for a spell to season. Red looks good when belts are painted on that bow. White and Blue looks good too. ONliest thng --if ya'll are usin this to hunt with--green, brown or even black might be a better color. I always like the purty bright colors. I never was fleet footed nuff to sneek up on game anyhow so thunk I mite as well have a purty bow.

We also made Indian Drags way back then. Usin small Maple tree saplins and their bark to tie the crosspieces on with. Pulled'm with a cousins burro sometimes. They worked!

What did ya'll build "back then" that ya'll'd wanna tell us about? Don't be shy---.

"What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and then lose his soul?" Thanks Jesus for all the blessings of this life! old hoot. Matt.24:44
