Just been announced that ex-Beatle Harrison died of cancer. It makes you realise you're getting old when your pop-star idols die of natural causes. RIP George.

Sad news. RIP.

Another symbol of my youth has passed away. As with John's death I feel irrationally numb, nostalgic and morose.

Rest In Peace, George - you gave so much to your generation.

I have to say that John lennon was my Kennedy. I know exactly where I was and doing. George, I have to say, was coming for a while but my guitar will gently weep this evening, no doubt. I guess as men of their time, that one of the four died early in this way is unsurprising. Funny thing about recorded media is that his works will affect peoples lives yet, maybe even for the better. this I'm sure would be welcomed, George Harrison, the music lives on as the memory does I'm sure.

All things must pass, including George it appears. Sad news indeed.

Beautiful words, TM. Same with me re Lennon. Even knowing that George's death was coming doesn't really make it any easier. RIP George, and thank you for the music. :-(

Apologies if the formatting messes this up. One Foot In The Grave writer David Renwick chose "End Of The Line" by Harrison's The Travelling Wilburys to play out over the credits on the last ever episode of his series, after the death of Victor Meldrew.

The lyrics were poignant then and, of course, much more so today RIP George:

Well it's all right, riding around in the breeze Well it's all right, if you live the life you please Well it's all right, doing the best you can Well it's all right, as long as you lend a hand

You can sit around and wait for the phone to ring Waiting for someone to tell you everything Sit around and wonder what tomorrow will bring Maybe a diamond ring

Well it's all right, even if they say you're wrong Well it's all right, sometimes you gotta be strong Well it's all right, As long as you got somewhere to lay Well it's all right, everyday is Judgement Day

Maybe somewhere down the road aways You'll think of me, wonder where I am these days Maybe somewhere down the road when somebody plays Purple haze

Well it's all right, even when push comes to shove Well it's all right, if you got someone to love Well it's all right, everything'll work out fine Well it's all right, we're going to the end of the line

Don't have to be ashamed of the car I drive I'm glad to be here, happy to be alive It don't matter if you're by my side I'm satisfied.

Well it's all right, even if you're old and grey Well it's all right, you still got something to say Well it's all right, remember to live and let live Well it's all right, the best you can do is forgive

(Chorus 5) Well it's all right, riding around in the breeze Well it's all right, if you live the life you please Well it's all right, even if the sun don't shine Well it's all right, we're going to the end of the line

Sorry...that should have been The Traveling Wilburys. Notice the lack of an L.

Big shock, as Sir George Martin said.

But, surely, the man who sang My Sweet Lord - and really wanted to see him - is in a better place...where's there's a distinct lack of L.

George Harrison may have been a better man that he was a musician, and for me that's saying a lot, as I think he was a hell of a musician. In this day and age I guess I don't feel too bad about having the Beatles and especially George as my idols. I could have done a lot worse.
