My little Angel

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

We have just finished the nativity costume for our five year old. Christopher did not want to be an angel under any circumstances. This year it is the animal nativity. All his friends were being different animals, which to him would be soo much better.

After some prayer, persuation, bribary and insistance an angel he will be. He knows all the songs, holding up his song sheet, even though he can't read yet.

On Sunday afternoon his father and I made the costume. Fencing wire, shaped and taped and finally held by hog clips gave the basic wings and halo. The wings were then both covered with a white thin poly bag, (he wanted feathers but we only have Rhode Island Red chickens) and the gold tinsel added.

The tunic was cut from an old sheet. Folded in half to give the shoulder seam, 'T' shape body and arms were cut. The seams under the arms and down the sides then sewn. Tinsel sewed onto each cuff and another piece for a belt.

While we did it there was much trying on and a change of attitude. His sister (3 1/2) sat in raptures as it developed and looked like an angel herself when she tried the finished article on first. When Christopher finally tried it on he looked a treat.

He took it in to school today and any small resistance left vanished. Who wants to be an animal (Brown trousers and Fleece jumper) when you can have an angel costume with real wings. God is so good. We had a fantastic time creating this for him. His street cred has gone up at school because of his cool costume, and now he can't wait to be an angel.

I hope your little angels will have as much fun as I think mine will have this Christmas.

Best Wishes

Alison

Very nice!! But don't you think a few red chicken feathers would dress it up nicely?!!!! HA! HA! I could just picture the look on the parents faces if that would occur!
