threat to the DC area today (12/4)

I have debated all day about whether to post any of the "DC area Threatened" articles. I don't like spreading unspecific warnings.

However, I have rec'd a private email from a .mil source earlier this evening confirming that there is a threat against DC and that Chicago was also high on the watch list again. I post this for what it's worth. -----------------------------

WMAL News Staff Report: Authorities have received info about a threat to the DC area today

(Washington-AP) -- Mayor Tony Williams says District officials are trying to protect the city in a way that ``keeps it open.''

The mayor spoke this morning about a report in today's Washington Post. The paper quotes an unidentified ``police source in the Washington suburbs'' as saying authorities have received information about a threat to the area today, or ``sometime thereafter.''

The newspaper's source says the information is ``non-specific'' but comes from a ``credible'' source.

Williams has been outspoken urging people to live their lives and visit D-C, which is heavily dependent on tourist dollars.

Homeland Security chief Tom Ridge says the Post report has ``absolutely nothing to do'' with the alert he issued yesterday.

Ridge doth protest too much, methinks.

Right now Ground Zero is my bed, which for the time being is a narrow cot. Not large enough for me and a laptop and three cats that aren't on meowing terms with each other.

Meemur, I appreciate the heads ups. It reminds me to activate my nighttime radiation meter. And if nothing happens, well, I can always hope it is because our anti-terrorist forces have had another success.

Meemur,

FWIW, I have a SSA source that's saying the same thing... about the threat to DC and that Chicago is now on the high alert list again. Chicago is my home town... Gee, do I sound like Frank??? :)

Good, Kath. I'm glad you saw this post and have a source. I was going to PM you on TB2K about the warning, not that you aren't already on high alert over in Chicagoland.

The reason my correspondent even brought it up is because I generally travel after the second week in December, and Chicago is a frequent weekend getaway for me when Southwest has $42 tickets to Midway Airport.

Not this year. I'll run some Christmas goodies over to Newark (Ohio) at some point, but that's as far as I'm going until things settle down. Newark is a small town, about 40 miles east of Columbus.

Everyone remember that Koskinen landed in D.C.? As chief of staff, or something like that. I'll bet he wishes he still had his fancy electronic bunker to play around in.
