Jalynn did it again

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

On the way home yesterday Jalynn and Marques were playing around and Marques fell on Jalynn she hit the concrete and she now has a scrape mark all the way around her right eye and it is black and blue and swollen. Does anybody know other than the obvious stuff how to keep this from scarring to badly. I think Marques felt worse than Jalynn when it happen. I put witch hazel and bandaids on it and it stopped the bleeding but this morning it was clear wet and very very sore. The people at her school are watching over her and she seems to be doing fine.

Vitamin E. Give Jalynn a kiss from G'ma and tell her and Marques and Journey I love them.

I have found with my children that most minor scrapes heal without scarring as long as the child can be prevented from picking at the scabs. The newly healed skin will often be a slightly different colour, but this eventually goes away in time.

I agree with your momma, vitamin E. Wait til it is no longer oozing anything, break open a vitamin E capsule or buy the liquid and put it on the area 2 or 3 times a day. Give her a hug and kiss from me too!

Calendula ointment is very good too, also goldenseal salve, available from health food stores if you don't make your own. They are naturally antiseptic and very soothing to the skin, as well as preventing scars.
