gonna have my cake and eat it too Screach.....

Hopefully a quiet and peaceful weekend recovering from the leaf- sweeping and Christmas shopping marathons I`ve exhausted myself with this week. Picking up my 1920`s American bear from the `hospital` on Sunday, where he has been recovering from surgery! Nice sceneic drive through darkest Dorsetshire, where I shall hopefully catch the last of the autumn colour. Staying as far away from shops as is humanly possible. Maybe even consider getting the Christmas decorations from the loft......but then, maybe not! (:o)

Nowt on the neet (and I mean nowt on) sans Birthday cake sparxx. Up with birds the morra (steady on Gav) take her over to school in the morning so she can take the exam for her doctoral program, I am gonna scram for three hours and watch some footy. Back to pick her up, listen to her all day second guess herself, feel bad, buy her dinner........good lad me mind! Tomorrow I am being dragged to one of these outlet malls to spend a bastard fortune of buying gifts for people I don't even know, antique show in the pm, dinner with the outlaws sunday neet. Cannit wait to get back to work.

Syme, is it you or your good lady who is interested in antiques? (:o)

-- Anonymous, December 07, 2001

Since, I am an antique it must be her. She loves 'em. "Ooh" she'll say, let's just stop in here and have a look at the antiques. Me? I am a "yes, that's nice" kinda lad. I love watching the antiques roadshow just to see some of their faces when they are told theirs is a fake.lol

-- Anonymous, December 07, 2001

Now that the temps are finally looking to drop below 60F, and it feels a bit more like Christmas...probably try to finish up my shopping. ;-)

-- Anonymous, December 07, 2001

So you over in Blighty right now Syme? I didn't realise US of A was old enough to have antiques.

As for you Gal, you really do know how to enjoy yersel - sweeping leaves. Wow! I wish I could do that. I bet it;s almost as good as cutting the hedge (which is no more).

I am a real antique hound.... (and before anyone says it, though it may be true, I do not mean `a bit of an old dog!)(:o)

I am building a fair collection of early bears, the latest acquistions being two very old Knickerbocker bears from Boston. Quite a sad story really...the guy who owned them was one of twins, but the other twin died in infancy. The bears were kept together though, and he was rehoming them now because he was going into a home, at the ripe old age of 88. He was very pleased that they were staying together.

My other passion is Victorian jewellery and Art Deco furniture. If your good lady is looking for anything in particular, I will be happy to keep my eyes open at the fairs over here.(:o)

It`s a tough job Screacher, but someone`s got to do it! It`s amazing the number of jobs that Pete was told he mustn`t do after his accident! Funny that they are all to do with gardening or decorating! (;o)

Begun the w/e already! Brass monkey job up on 't Northumbria Coast. Lovely bright day for a walk along to Dunstanburgh Castle, but bloody caad!

Had the pleasure of our 2 year-old grand-daughter today - what a little bundle of joy she is. She breezes into any environment with a big smile on her face, and proceeds to sprinkle happiness all round until she leaves.

Sitting here now catching up on the bbs, a log blazing on 't fire, glass of a rather nice Merlot in hand.

Life is good - at least until Sunday pm!

I was watching the Antiques Roadshow the other night (she was watching I was pretending too) when one of those Knickerbocker bears comes on (pretty sure) if I remember correctly it was worth about $2k.

she loves it all Tiffany lights, federal furniture...the whole whack.

Bog off Clarky, with yer glass of merlot and blazing fire and here's me at work for another 5 hours. cyber cheers to you marra ;-))

So she`s still the apple of your eye then Clarky? (:o) I remember when she arrived, you had me in tears with your postings......not laughter I hasten to add!

I may join you with that glass of Merlot....you just got my tastebuds going.(:o)

-- Anonymous, December 07, 2001

Syme - Tiffany eh? Expensive tastes! (:o)

-- Anonymous, December 07, 2001

Merlot? Right nice cuppa mind! lovely with cake.....

-- Anonymous, December 07, 2001

Like's 'em doesn't own one, the closet she'll ever get to tiffany is breakfast at Tiffany's with Audrey hepburn

-- Anonymous, December 07, 2001

Sometimes my spelling is just toilet that should read closest not closet, what the hell am I on??

-- Anonymous, December 07, 2001

Sears used to do some reasonable Tiffany knock-offs. Sure, the shades are plastic, but in a darkened room after a few glasses of wine, no one will ever know the difference. ;-)

-- Anonymous, December 07, 2001

Clarky - the thought of a walk up the coast to the castle on a cold bright day, with the waves crashing........well it brings tears to my eyes. Stuck in the grim, over populated, dark and damp north west of England. Can't remember when I last saw the sun!

Very jealous and homesick.

"Sears used to do some reasonable Tiffany knock-offs." - our very own Roz Sears, Ciara?

Red Wine!!!

Is Dr. Bill around?

I'm stuck in Singapore with an horrific gout "attack" in my foot, this is day 3 and I'm totally incapacitated.

I'm due to leave for New Zealand on Monday night; any miracle cures anyone PLEASE???

don't drink beer. I heard it brings it on.

-- Anonymous, December 08, 2001

...that may well have been the cause Nick, but what about a cure?

;-(

-- Anonymous, December 08, 2001

Amputation? Or Richard Steadman - tho that would require a long flight to Colorado). Sorry - not much help Bud. I knew a guy at work who suffered from gout, usually brought on by drinking port. 4-5 days abstention usually did the trick. Good luck. GWS

-- Anonymous, December 08, 2001

Sorry to hear of your misfortune bud, a mate over here used to suffer, no quick cure I'm afraid, just avoidance.

Merlot clarky? Poofs drink that, get yerself a real red like Cab Sav or Shiraz!

-- Anonymous, December 08, 2001

.... whatever's 'on sale', Gus - even the poof's stuff is canny in the privacy of your own home!!

-- Anonymous, December 08, 2001

If I can ever arrange to come back, remind me and I will bring you some real wine!

-- Anonymous, December 08, 2001

..... you're on bonny lad!

How about one or two recommendations - I drink lots of wine from Oz and NZ, in fact from anywhere but France where you really need to understand the vintages because the climate is variable. I'm also a Franco-phobe, other than with left wingers!!

-- Anonymous, December 08, 2001

Coincidence, fate, bad omen?:

To relieve the pressures of my day job (stress causes gout!), I've just set up a company which exports wine from South Africa to Canada, Hong Kong and Singapore!

Looking for a reputable agent (not sampler!) in Oz and U.K?

-- Anonymous, December 09, 2001

bud,

I know a couple over here with Oz wide links. Use my other mail and I will get some info from you!

-- Anonymous, December 09, 2001

Will do mate, with gusto ;-)
