1838 Petition of Inhabitants of Montgomery County NC seeking to divide the county

In 1838, the citizens of Montgomery County living west of the Yadkin River once again petitioned the state's general assembly to divide the county. An extensive 16 running feet of signature lists, the document includes the names of many early settlers. Shortly after, and resulting from this petition, the County of Stanly was created in 1841.
