Today, December 9, we members of the Catholic Church family honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- saints whose souls are now in heaven:

Sts. Abibus, Hipparchus, James, Lollian, Paragnus, Philotheus, and Romanus ["Holy Martyrs of Samosata"] (Syrian, converts, refused to perform pagan rite, martyred by crucifixion in 297)
St. Balda (French, abbess, 7th century)
St. Budoc (Irish, abbot, bishop in France)
Bl. Clara Isabella Fornari [baptized Anna Felicia] (Italian, Poor Clare nun, stigmatist [including crown of thorns], visionary, d. 1744)
St. Cyprian (French, hermit, 7th century)
St. Gorgonia (Cappadocian [Turkish], daughter of two saints, sister of two saints [including Gregory of Nazianzen], wife, mother of three, c. 375)
St. John Roberts (Welsh, Benedictine priest in Spain, martyred in England [drawn, hanged, quartered] in 1610 [canonized 1970])
St. Julian of Apamea (Syrian, bishop, 3rd century)
St. Leocadia (Spanish, slave, c. 303)
St. Peter Fourier (French, Augustinian priest, founder of Daughters of Our Lady, d. 1640)
St. Proculus of Verona (Italian, bishop, c. 320)
St. Syrus of Pavia (Italian, bishop, early martyr)
St. Valeria (French, early martyr)

John, Is Dec.9th the feastday of Blessed Juan Diego, Mexico, d,1548.

Blessed Juan, rose before dawn to walk 15 miles to daily Mass, in what is now Mexico City. Our Lady appeared to Juan Diego several times.

John, On Thursday, Dec 20, The Pope will rule on the canonisation of Blessed Juan Diego. So, maybe he will be called Saint Juan Diego this week.
