Christmas costume party

Thanks to you lot egging me on, I got first prize at the party--a hundred bucks. I did as promised, went as "I'm not Martha Stewart." What people liked best were the Ritz crackers with aerosol cheese and some lurid green wreath cookies from Keebler--proffered with a dead-pan "Care for an hors d'ouevre?" in plummy British tones. Mind you, the large jingle bells on the gold shoes, Christmas socks (musical), flashing lighted reindeer antlers, red sunglasses, many strings of red and green Mardi Gras beads, a ceramic santa necklace, miniature Christmas lights necklace, garishly bright pants and tinsel boa didn't hurt. Oh and earrings, 4" long, consisting of elongated diamond-shaped, hexagonal clear plastic with decorated Christmas trees inside. Sweetie said he couldn't look at me for long, he thought he might have a seizure.

The party was great. Kim had actually hired a good band and there was a caterer too! I did my stand-up stuff during the band break and THAT was a hoot. The party was held in Kim's warehouse, beautifully decorated with all kinds of campy stuff from the shop. Tell you what, people who have and haunt junk shops are NEAT!

Congrats on your big win :)

"Sweetie said he couldn't look at me for long, he thought he might have a seizure." Aaaahahahaha! A picture would be nice.

I love a good junk shop...also rummage sales, auctions, used book stores...never know what you'll find there.

Saturday morning, the Hungarian and I went to an estate sale. I hadn't intended to spend much--but. There was this Victorian locket, brass, I think, like a book, with photos in tiny oval frames, hinged to fold out, four on each side (eight pics, back-to-front each side, sixteen total, actually fourteen, two were missing). And the photos were faded sepia renditions of Victoria and Albert and possibly their family. On the other side were what could be photos of the original owner's family. I don't usually buy anything other than costume jewelry but the thing "spoke" to me. Very odd--I felt the need to tell the woman handling the jewelry that it would stay with me and was going to a good home. She said she was very happy about that and she really was; she liked it too. It was $28 and that was a fair price but I wasn't intending to spend a penny on anything frivolous. You can imagine how much guilt the hundred bucks took away!

I also found a perfectly good Woolrich berber jacket for six bucks.

Well, there was a guy there taking snapshots. I'll have to see if I can get one or two. I took my camera but the flash battery went after about half a dozen shots, dammit.
