eye surgery update

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

I had mentioned that I was having eye surgery a few weeks back on a Plain Talkin' thread. Someone asked me to let you know how things went. Well, the Opthomologist didn't do the surgery because he thinks the conjunctival cycts are allergy related. I was so thankful for that. I'm supposed to use eye drops, but they give me headaches. Yeah, like I need more of those! Anyway, they have gone down in size. I'm praying they won't swell like that again!

I was wondering how you were doing? So glad for the update. Hope you don't have to have surgery. Will pray that the drops work.

Jo, You mean cysts in your eye lids? I have had those THREE times, surgery three times. Finally just stopped using eye makeup completely, and that ended the problem.

Soak wash clothes in very warm water, hot as you can stand, and hold against your eyes for 5 minutes at least four times a day. It helps.

Jo, I hope you are able to get some relief from this problem. I have just recently had very dry eyes and it is very annoying, so I know a little of what you are going through, although your problem sounds much worse.

The cysts are on my eye balls. The one that was giving me the problem is at the edge of my iris. I haven't worn makeup in years, so that isn't the cause. I think the reason for the flare up is crazy weather and stress. It could also be that my body is still trying to get used to the allergens in the new house.

Please forgive me for offering unsolicited medical advice--and I know you get them on your eyeballs instead of eyelids--

But I used to get cysts in many places--eyelids, earlobes --and often. After having a breast cystectomy I read where caffeine can cause these. ONce I stopped using caffeine (remember chocolate, and soft drinks too) they all stopped at once.

Try to stop caffeine and see if it helps.

Advice from the people on this forum is exactly what I am looking for. Keep the suggestions coming. Even if I don't like a particular suggestion (and believe me, giving up caffeine would send my world spinning into galaxies uncharted) someone else may be able to gleen useful information.

I doubt this suggestion is useful to you, but if you use hairspray, that can also be a culprit for allergies. I had a friend once who had terrible headaches for years before she discovered it was the hairspray!

Glad to hear you didn't have to have surgery, but I know how even a little sore on the eyelid can be extremely irritating. Glad the problem has gone down, and hope it continues to improve.

I recently had surgery on my eyes on january 30th. I had 3 on my left eye and 2 on my right eye. Even though i'm only 17 years old the surgery went well. The doctor said they occur because i have oily skin, and i always put vaseline on my face. When i was younger i had a cysts on my wrist. I hurted whenever i picked up something heavy. The doctor said that the cysts may have messed up my vision since i had them for about a year and a couple of months. So now i take eye drops and facial medicine. I just wanted to know how can i keep these things form reocurring.
