John White Geary (1819-1873) was the city's first mayor on May 1, 1850. The first American Alcaldes was Lt Washington Allon Bartlett elected in in 1846. The first Mexican Alcaldes was Francisco de Haro appointed in 1834. Check out Gladys Hansen's "San Francisco almananc">Good luck.
