Any new techniques in total knee replacement

greenspun.com : LUSENET : About Joints : One Thread

I'm looking at a total knee replacement, my left knee, because of soccer injuries, it is now arthritic. I've had 2 surgeries for meniscus removal, synvisc injections and cortisone shots. Is there anything else out there if not, what's new in less invasive tkr surgery?

Unfortunately, I cannot answer this question without a thorough exam of your knee and x-ray evaluation. As every patient is different, so is his/her treatment plan.

I'm in the same position.. sort of (soccer injuries, but it's both knees, both acl's replaced, majority of meniscus removed, shots and 'scopes out the wazoo)! I've been putting it off for years now because I kept hoping something would come up. TKR at an early age (I'm 42) is the last option and, unfortunately, there is nothing new on the horizon. I've been researching it EXTENSIVELY and there is nothing left to do really but bite the bullet and get it done. But the likelihood of it lasting for decades is slim and after 2 maybe 3 of them, amputation or fusion are looming! It means no more playing but at least I'll be able to walk to the field!
