Why is she still covering White House press briefings? She is 80, put her out to pasture. This morning Ari Fleisher had to help her untangle two separate questions that she got mixed together. I'm all for veneration of the elderly (a moment of veneration please) but she abuses the privelege.

Helen was officially declared part of the White House furnishings and given an inventory number in 1998. Conservators of the National Park Service say they want to refurbish her, but the Congress will not authorize the expenditure of $86.2 million for that purpose unless she is made part of an Army Corps of Engineers dam project in Dick Armey's district. The National Park Service refuses to accept this condition and the whole issue is now before the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.
