I looked over my borrowed land today

I looked over my borrowed land today, and it is very sandy. There is some good grass growth in large patches, although where the heavy machinery was is mostly bare sand. (A major sewer pipe was put in recently, so the bulldozers tore up about half of it and then put it back). Since my yard is heavy clay, I will put most of the veggies in my yard, with root veggies on the borrowed land, as well as the real space hogs like pumpkins. I spoke to a greengrocer last fall who likes to advertise that much of his stuff is locally grown and REALLY fresh, and he mentioned a few vegetables that he has trouble buying locally, so I will grow some to offer him. We aren't talking veggies that are not suited to the area here, we are talking about things like OKRA, which has spines. No big deal: I'll harvest it wearing gloves! There are also a few vegetable stands in the area: I think I'll offer them anything Frank does't take, I could try farmers marketing something besides jelly (I am sick to death of spending the summer in the kitchen-I am a victim of my own success!) And, last but not least, There is a pantry out here that will take unsold vegetables.(P) I tried this once before, but the spring was so cold and overcast I didn't have much to offer, and most of the other farmers marketers had greenhouses and weren't bothered much by the spring. So this year I will have my own greenhouse (PVC pipe) and I can start my plants in there.

We were going to buy 5 acres about an hours drive away from here last summer-it was BEAUTIFUL and had a spring on it, but my husband got cold feet and changed his mind just before closing. Frustration did not express my feelings, I have been trying to get more land for YEARS! But, he was talking to a friend about the deal that fell through, and he said he wasn't using a corner of the land that he parks his equipment on, wouldn't be using it for quite a few years yet, and I was welcome to use it!!!! So now I have room for LOTS OF PLANTS!!!!!!!
