Arsenal Match thread

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Team: Given, Hughes, O'Brien, Dabz, Elliott, Solano, Dyer, Speed, Bernard, AS, Bellamy.

Rather worried about our midfield without Lee, but anyway - Howay the Lads - do us proud.

Answers

Forgot to mention - Distin and Robert on the bench. C'est la vie, Laurent!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Just want to say.............HOWAY THE LADS!!!!! I am so excited about tonight`s game - don`t know why, but I have a really good feeling about it! COME ON LADS!!!!! (:O)

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Hello from deep inside my cubicle, deep inside an office building in Annapolis! Glad Robert isn't starting, even though I lose another point on my team pick grrrr. Bernard deserves another shot, and Robert should be rested until his torn @rse heals properly. Too bad Distin is back on the bench, though. Sounded from the match reports over the weekend that he deserves another start.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

IMHO This game is our measuring stick, one way or another we'll know after tonight whether we are contenders or pretenders!!!!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Sorry, Clarky, started another thread but will up sticks to your little sofa. Still furious at the general f*ckwittery in Marks and Sparks: why do people go so mental at this time of year?

Our man at the match, Screach, was having Tube trouble about an hour ago!

Anyway, eeeeeeeeeeeek!!!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

How can one game become so all or nothing to so many people????

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Quick HOWAY THE LADS! before kick off, come on lads.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Honestly, I really only see this as just another game for us. We usually raise our game against the bigger teams so expect a decent performance tonight. I'm far more worried about meeting the teams we're 'supposed' to beat as that's when we tend to fall on our faces.

Howay the lads! Make us proud tonight, no matter how many points we get out of it. :-)

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

What am I doing up? A very early morning to you all....

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

5 mins gone and it's been all Arsenal - maybe the players are as tired as me.....:-(

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Darn, I was hoping the text commentary was being confusing and inaccurate. They have it as all Arse too. *sigh*

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Maybe our chance is to hold on untill halftime, and then bring on Robert to run at them.........

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

and bring on LuaLua

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Starting to get into it - a bit.But give the ball away too much. Can't see us get oot oot of this....

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Kanu missed an open goal from 8 yards

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Bollox really, isn't it? Having said that, you expect the home team to chuck it at you in the first half..

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

I was beginning to wonder if the game had been stopped. No text updates since the 13th minute

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

bollox - Pires

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Uhhh this is not our evening !!!!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

We lasted 20min anyway. Let's see if we can dig in and not allow any more goals. Throw on Luax2 in the second half when they're tired and we may just nick a draw.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

SPeed was booked as a result of the goal - the ball brushed Pires' arm and he felt it should have been a free kick - that's all we need Speed on a yellow with his gob

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Was Bellamy close to receiving a card abotu 10-15min ago. There was mention on text that he was spoken to by the ref. They didn't say what he'd done, however.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

There was a bit of a niggle between him and Keown and the ref just gave them both a talking to

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

GET INNN! 1-1! The boy Dyer! WOOOO!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

?????

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

No lie?! WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Text updates are still way behind, so I've no idea what's going on right now.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Ok....what time was that goal? Still nothing on text. They're up to the 30th minute...

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

30 mins 40 here stilll 1-0

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Ooups False alarm! SORRY! heh heh heh

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

moron

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Are you Rik in disguise?!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Be4lamy booked for gobbing-off/reputation

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

JAY-ZUS!! Bellamy booked. For dissent. Tape his gob someone please!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Andy's the Makem, isn't he? Not sure if he's the famous dual name, single IP one.

Don't worry lads and lasses: we all expected this. If we'd won tonight, we'd have lost at Leeds on Saturday.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

This Bellamy thing is getting beyond a joke: he'll be on three games' suspension for so many yellows soon.

Just knew Pires would score!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Besides the fact he's killing our chance of getting into Europe via the Fair Play award. ;-))

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

According to 365, Bellamy and Speed had good cause to whine as Poll is having a mare...

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

How has Dyer been?

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

sports.com reckon Solano is having a mare

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

He's not having a great game I can see a red coming out in the second. I'm pretty sure Bellamy got booked because it wsa him - if Dyerhad done it - he wouldn't have been. The ball defo made contacst with the arm when the cross came in for Pires' goal.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Hmm, I think we may need Robert on.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Is Dyer playing? We are getting into the game a lot more but our distribution at times has been woeful

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Ooh, this is turning a bit nasty. I know we want them to be competitive but we don't want them to be suspended for the winnables after Christmas...

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Parloiur sent off - there is a god

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

OOH!! Wha'appen?!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

What for?

Being pessimistic, what this means is that they'll now defend and score one on the counter...

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

late tackle on Shearer - after he had been booked before he could have been sent off for a second foul. Weneed to get at them and make this count

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Apparently even Shearer was trying to reason with Poll to not show a second yellow for that one.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Apparently Shearer tried to persuade Poll to not give a red!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Sounds like no matter the result, all the talk will be about the ref.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

He did 0- he grabbed his arm and tried to stop the second yellow from being raised - h-t 0-1

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

10 Goal attempts 0 3 On Target 0 7 Off Target 0 0 Hit Woodwork 0 4 Corners 0 9 Fouls 12 4 Offsides 1

Read first number Arsenal second Newcastle...

Says it all

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

The lads better watch out, with Poll is in this mood.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

While Parlour's sending off may seem a little harsh, let's remember he was booked for deliberately elbowing Dabz in the back of the neck, and got a 2nd yellow for bringing down AS from behind. Thats the game these days, and it's just tough t*ts for Parlour as far as I'm concerned.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

bold statement there, Clarky ;-)

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

So how are we looking otherwise? Any HT tv-eyewitness accounts?

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

It's laughable to the point of hysterical how BAD they are making our defence look. Hughes, O'Brien and Elliott are getting nowhere near their men.

Lets see what happens in the second half, 3-1 to the Arse I reckon, our goal being alate consolation :(

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Rihgt come on lads - let's win this - we can....

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Shearer caught Keown with an elbow as he went to head it - nothing malicious but Keown has a huge egg on his head - even uglier than before....

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Need to bring on Robert soon and possibly lua. Solano is having a mare - STILL no shots on (or off) goal

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

We need a goal soon, then anything can happend

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Sounds end-to-end on text. Let's see if we can get a point out of this one. A very realistic target, lads!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

The thing is, we were never going to keep them out: no one would even pretend that our lads are World Class at the back while their attackers are. It's the fact that we are creating NOWT that pisses off.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Robert and Lua on for Solano and Elliott =- am I psychic or what

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Oh dear - this could turn nasty.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

O'Brien 1-1 from a corner bloody hell

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

So is Bernard moving back, or Robert playing LB? Or are we just going to throw everyone forward?...probably a good option right now!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLL

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

For real this time!!! O'Brien!!!!!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Totally unmarked at the near post - can't remember the last time we scored from a corner - was it in McFaul or SMith's days?

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

And another one please?

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Who put the ball in the Gooners' net? O'Brien, O'Brien.

Watch the dozy gets get over-excited and concede one now.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

LOL, Dougal. Was just about to make my usual post-goal "CONCENTRATE FFS LADS" post. oh, I just have. ;-)

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

O'Brien bbooked for nothing - gave Henry a nudge - Henry holds up an imaginary yellow card and the robot Poll obliges. Henry should also have been booked for gamesmanship.....

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

We are the Geordies !!!! Could be our night. Parlour off, Keown seeing double, Lua Lua + Robert + Dyer in Kamikaze midfield ... And Trevor Brooking's gone all quiet ... If we don't do it tonight we never will.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Good morning from New Zealand:

1) is it still 1-1?

2) how long left (to hang on or, to get a winner?)?

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Oooh, Given just made a great save.

What I would love is for Lolo to show Pires that he can challenge for his Equipe de France slot. However, it isn't looking like it's happening.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

23 mins bud - plus I would imagine at least 2 mins of injury time.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Around 20min plus stoppage, I think.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Ohno Bergkamp on.

He always seem to ruin my day !

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Is Robert playing any better than his last few games?

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Come onnnnnnn

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

don't think he's kicked the ball yet.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Bellamy sent off - straight red - shocking decision.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

We really need to get the ball to him: one of their already booked players might foul him badly and get sent off.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

I will be pleased with 1 point even now !!!!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Oh f...k. What for? This REALLY buggers us up for a few games now.

Poll is having a mare.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Trev Brooking doesn't agree with Bellamy sending off either.

Presume those out of range know they can listen live via:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/fivelive/

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

I knew it.

The ref made a mistake in the first half, now we are paying !!!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Unbelievable! Does this mean Bellamy is suspended for Manure?

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Turned on the ball - held his arm up which grabbed cole by the head - but no intent - he's trying to protect the ball - definitely not a red and arguably a yellow. You need to have intent mr. poll - expect that one to be downgraded as should the ref if gallacher can be sent to the nationwide poll should be sent to the northern league.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

We are going to lose !

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Well if it's a dodgy call and was a straight red, perhaps it can be rescinded or at least have the suspension reduced.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Hang on tight to this lads! 1 point is better than none!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Arsenal have the impetus now - we are not going to get oot oot of this game. Unless we get the ball to RObert and let him run at them but he hasn't had the ball once yet

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Morning from Oz

I watched the first half on Tv at home and have had to come to work. Sounds like I have missed a fair bit.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Apologies...forgot the rights don't allow Five Live to broadcast the football via the Net.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

There's likely webcasts, from arse if ours isn't working. I just can't check because I'm behind a firewall so reliant entirely on text updates. I hate midweek matches. ;-)

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Oh bollox - we are really struggling now. Apparently Dyer has had a minger (along with most of them, truth to tell).

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

If we can minge and get a point, we've done well. Hang on lads!!!!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

This is unbearable.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

How much time is left?

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Given saves the day again.

They are going to score any minute.

I hate Thierry Henry.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Robert brought down in the box - Campbell booked- penalty

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Yessssssssssssssssssssssss! 2-1. Blow the whistle!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

About 7 plus long enough stoppage for them to score.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

If Given saves this point for us, I'll have his babies!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Shearer 2-1 come on

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

I;m shaking.....

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

I'm in shock!!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Dyer off - Distin on

A shearer penalty??!!! What happened!!!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

I've switched on the radio twice very briefly for 2 mins and we scored each time. I'll switch it off again now. :-)

Brooking on 5live says it was never a pen. That makes it even more fun!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

BTW this is Shearer's first ever goal against Arse. :-D

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

ooooooooooooooooohow much time is left?

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Tremendous injustice going on in this match: Poll is surely having the mare of his lifetime. Are we going to succeed in twocking the points? No, they'll have equalised by the time I've posted this.

Ciara, would it really take as much as saving the game to make you have Given's babies? ;o)

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

6 minutes injury time

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

To go through the ick of pregnancy and pain of delivery...yes. ;-))

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

6 MINUTES! Oh God!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

We go top!!!!!!!!

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

3-1 Robert hold on we are going to do it

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Though it would take far less than saving the game to get me to practice the part leading up to the ick of pregnancy. ;-))

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Incredible game. Great dive by Robert, when it sounds like he'd pushed the ball too far. Can we hang on? Wish I'd had a bet. 6 minutes of stoppage time HAHAHA Can't stand it 3-1 TOP OF THE LEAGUE INCROYABLE VIVE LA FRANCE LOLOLOLOLOL

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Five Live: "Newcastle tonight are top of the Premiership!"

Ok, so we won't win it. But it's just the Christmas present Bobby deserves...and if he doesn't get a knighthood in the New Year's Honours, it must mean he's turned it down.

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Pilgrim - go down to Jolly Beach : incredible, and Nelson's dockyard, and Lashings to get a game of beach cricket with Richie Richardson

-- Anonymous, December 18, 2001

Too late Barry! - We arrived at St Maarten this morning - know any good places here or St Kitts or Aruba?

-- Anonymous, December 19, 2001

Sorry never been there but I hope you enjoyed Antigua - we were there exactly a year ago and we loved it. I found that the ex British islands were generally more friendly / different / laid back than the French islands I've been, but the whole Caribbean is great as far as I'm concerned. Enjoy it.

-- Anonymous, December 19, 2001

Pilgrim sonna, there is a smallish restarant in the dockside that is run by several woman, the food there is truly amazing. Get yersell a car and visit a new beach everyday, at lesat that's what I did. They'll even sell ye bottles of redstrip on the beach.
