Quote of The Day

"People think it's African, but it's not. I put it around Christmas because I knew that's when a lot of 'bloods' [Blacks] would be partying."

--Ron Karenga, convicted felon and "inventor" of Kwanzaa

Just a reminder: Today is the anniversary of the Impeachment of this man. We can't remember his name but we remember the party. A Sob Too Far: Blaming a ludicrous as well as phony piece of reporting from Afghanistan on "the fog of war" a helmetless Geraldo is scrambling to bail himself out of a situation that should have him yanked back home and fired. Or, fired and left there for that matter. The Baltimore Sun was the first to complain. There will be a lot more.

This Morning's Mental Engine Starter: Michael Kelly's column deals with a Yalie twit who is wrestling with how to "judge" September 11. You won't need that second cup of coffee. Here's someone else who should be snatched home. Perhaps this kid needs to take next semester off and help find body parts at Ground Zero.

Krauthammer On The God That Failed: After you read Kelly this morning you must read Charles Krauthammer's stunning piece on the war and what really matters. It set us to wondering: Who exactly was it who asked "Why do they hate us?"? And, why should we care?

Pity The Liberal Pundits: One can't help but feel sorry for the state of liberal punditry these days. The collapse of Enron offers a tiny glimmer of hope to the likes of Joe Conason in today's Observer but it should quickly fade. All one need do is whisper two words. "Ron" and "Brown".

Ldotter Note: We hope today's picture isn't too upsetting. If so, scroll on by. But, we felt this anniversary should be commemorated and that you should know that the last Sunday's New York Times Book Review, in a slight but sympathetic review of Marvin Kalb's book on the press and Monica Lewinsky, said, straightfacedly, that the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy "forced Clinton to lie" to the grand jury. Ahhhhhhh, sic transit gloria.
