If you go to the older messages by category (archives) and check under the cooking categories you will find several threads there on how to use and care for castiron cookware. When you are in a category, do a Control & F key at the same time which will bring up a search box. Search on cast.

Look for the older messages but be sure you purchase the Made In America cast iron pots and pans. They just seem to be so much better quality. I wouldn't have the wooden handles ones either...I would probably catch them on fire !!! I have had mine for years and totally abuse them and they stay shiney (?) and clean !! I just scrub mine out with a brillo pad of some type and oil it a little and put it on the wood stove to dry. You'll never need to purchase another set either !! Good Luck and Happy Holidays !!!

Helena, I NEVER scrub my iron pans. I wash with a dishcloth in hot soapy water (some people just use hot water). The cooked-on, baked-on black surface is a lot like Teflon in that only a little grease is needed to keep stuff from sticking.

Go to www.lodgemfg.com. They make more cast iron cook ware than anyone and have a good web site.
