Best way to collect contributions online

greenspun.com : LUSENET : William's private forum : One Thread

I think online contributions should be sourced to an ISP rather than programming and managing it ourselves. Once again, and ISP would be more reliable and bug proof and they would handle mangement of security certificates, and other important stuff that I don't know about.

Most big banks do this, Well Fargo for example.

Here is how they do it. They build a webpage just for William Coit. They do all the set up programming, licensing, certificates, whatever. We just link to that page. As far as the user is concerned, it's just another page on the Coit site. An ISP can set this up very quickly and it will probably work perfectly with 24/7 support.

There are various charges and options depending on how much work they do, monthly fees, settlement timing, and commissions. Here is a brief example not including the cost of them building a page.

I don't know anything about the specific informaiton required for a campaign donation but I presume that information can be collected via the ISP's site.

I've contacted verisign about gateway costs and the information required to start up. As soon as I receive the information, I'll fill it out and begin the process.
