AME Church in Lawrenceville, Georgia ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : A.M.E. Today Discussion : One Thread

Is there an AME Church in this area? This past summer in August or September, one of our dear senior members relocated to Lawrenceville, Georgia, he is a dedicated AME, has been an Usher for many years. I know he misses fellowshipping with "us". Please let me hear from you with a church name and location.

God Bless You and Thank You

Hello Barbara:

If I'm not mistaken the town of Lawrenceville is an Atlanta suburb. I'm sure your friend will have no problem "connecting" with the fine folks of the 6th District given the large number of AME churches in and around Hotlanta. Perhaps The AME Today's Bob Matthews, one of the smartest persons I know, can offer some specific references since he is from that area. Hope this helps. QED

Bill,

Aren't you kind, especially since you live and work in a university environment, I am honored.

Barbara,

To my knowledge there is only one A.M.E. Church is all of Gwinette County, Georgia. That is New Bethel on the Yellow River at the Dekalb County border--near Lithonia, GA. The surrounding counties, however, have several A.M.E. Churches, especially Dekalb.

Lawrenceville is also located in an area where three Annual Conferences come together--the Atlanta-North, Augusta, and Macon. More specifically however, since Lawrenceville is in the Atlanta calling area, a call to Bishop Cumming's office should provide your friend with much more detailed information.

The number is (404) 524-8279.

I will also be happy to assist in any way I can.

This site lists all the churches, pastors, directions etc. that are located on the East District of the Atlanta-North Georgia Conference in which Gwinett County is located.

Hopefully, I have done the link correctly but I listed it twice just in case it does not work.

Correction - New Bethel church (the sanctuary) is no longer located in Gwinnett. It is in DeKalb. The new church moved about 1 miles from the former church, which is still in Gwinnett and is being used as a day care center (I want to say a day care for Seniors but I am not sure). New Bethel is a growing church . . .

However, there is one church in Gwinnett and it is located either in Duluth or Norcross. It is pastored by a woman, whose name does not come to me at press time. I couldn't find the church's phone # in the Atlanta directory either. . . If I find it, I'll post it . . .

One more correction. Lawrenceville is clearly in the Atlanta North GA Conference but close to churches (about 30 miles) from churches in the Augusta Conference. Our church in Gainesville, GA is in the Augusta Conference. However, it is a little too far away from churches in the Macon Conference. The person who posted this may be thinking of pleaces like Madison or even Monticello, which has churches in both the Macon and Atlanta North Conferences.

I want to be sure to give a heartfelt "thank you" to all of you who responded to my question. The closest church I found was fourteen (14) miles away from Lawrenceville, I sent the church an email asking whether they had a bus/van ministry that could pick people up, I am waiting on their response. Be in prayer with me that it will work out for my "relocated" member, so that he can continue serving the Lord as he has done for so many years. Barbara

This bulletin board is truly a blessing! From all your wonderful responses to my query about a church in or near Lawrenceville, GA, I think I have located one for him. The church is New Bethel AME in Lithonia, GA (14 miles away). I sent them an email the end of December, hadn't received a response from them by this week, being the "eager beaver" that I am, I called the church talked a very sweet and kind person that informed me they do have a bus/van ministry and they have a Senior Citizen Center and they already pick up a member in Lawrenceville!! The church is going to call them and make arrangements to pick them up, I can't tell you how happy I am that this worked out. God is awesome when we have him in our plans. Again I thank all of for your responses and your prayers in this matter.
