What's for supper?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

After having dinners here and there for the last several days, it seems like there is not much of anything different to have!! I think I am going to make a spicy sausage soup. I don't really know what to call it, but here is how I make it!

Brown about 1/2 pound of sausage, add some onions and green peppers, then add a jar of spaghetti sauce and one of whole tomatoes. A little water if it is too thick. Some Italian spices like oregano, basil and lots of garlic. Cook this for a while, and about 20-30 minutes before serving I add about 1 to 1 1/2 cups of some kind of pasts, like shells or rotini. Cook until the pasta is done. Spoon into bowls and sprinkle with a small handfull of mozzarella cheese. I will serve with a loaf of home-made wheat bread. This is good, warm and spicy!

What is for supper at your house???

Tonight is John Michael's birthday bash. He has never had a "real" birthday party , only myself ,grandma &pa, and my sister. This year he wanted a party so I said yes. Between family and the few friends and their parents he invited I am expecting over 40 people. Mostly family!! I had to have it in the church gym to fit everyone. I am serving homemade chili pies, sweet cornbread and for those who do not like chili, cheesy potatoe soup. I have also made him a horse cake and homemade icecream(with the left over candycanes!)God BLess

Yes. Kelly that is what Cale calls it! Pizza soup. the sausage I buy from the local Rotary group. They sell it two times a year as a fundraiser. It is so good, barely any fat at all. I get the Italian flavor, but it is not too spicy, so I spice it up some more. Nothing is too spicy for me! I use home-canned tomatoes and home-made sauce so it is a cheap meal. It fed all 6 of us, plus 4 hungry hunter friends!

Tonight I am having a left-over meatloaf, it is frozen but I am putting it in the crock-pot. I made it with ground deer meat, and wild hog sausage, then I added a half a jar of salsa, and some oats and a few other spices. In with it I will cook carrots and potatoes and I will fix a loaf of potato bread. For dessert I am having a lemon pie (left-over from Christmas) The carrots I canned myself, and the potatoes are from the garden.

Melinda, I got a blender too. I want to dry some nutritious drinks also. We will have to post some good recipes!
