Strictly FYI -- but this post is buring up the alert system. It's probably nothing.

Mosques Closed; Muslims gone: Attack imminent?

Please check any local mosques in your area. We are getting reports from exiting Washington state residents in Seattle area, that mosques in their area are shut down tight, with everyone gone. Since this was right after the OBL tape was aired, does this mean another attack is imminent? The lines at the Flying J truck stop in Lewiston, Idaho yesterday afternoon was solid Washington residents, one guy we talked to said he had been there for two hours waiting in line for gas. One guy said he could never remember a time when the mosques was locked up tight. Is this just a fluke or has OBL warned the Muslims and they have bagged ass? I would be interested to hear if other mosques are closed, especially in the western Washington area, but anywhere. Not sure what we can do about it, but the overall feeling of the people we talked to yesterday afternoon, said there was no way they were staying in the Seattle over the New Year. This does not do anything for the overpowering feelings and sense of urgency felt lately!! Get ready to get ready!!! As if we haven't heard that enough lately. The time now is 1:37 PM ET.

Again, this post is strictly FYI. I'm getting a ton of references to it in my mailbox, but no hard facts. For all I know, Mosques normally close during this season.

This is from camasprairiegirl on TB2K, not from me. I merely copied the post.

First, I would ask, "Who is "we?"

Second, the One Guy watches mosques and noticed that this is the first time they have locked up?

Third, reference to 'one guy' and 'One guy' and then 'the people we talked to yesterday,' again "Who is we?" and why not quote some of the other people?

Fourth, you know how certain people like to create a conspiracy. How well does anyone know this 'camasprairiegirl'?

From reading the thread it seems that others are asking similar questions. I think 'camasprairiegirl' is trying to make something of nothing.

Then again...

I like the question about the Flying J. Trying to figure why the gas lines at the Flying J Truckstop in Lewiston, Idaho, relate to closed mosques in Seattle .......??? Is the idea that all the moslems head due east over the Cascades in some of the heaviest snow on record, cross the prairie and line up at the Flying J for the next leg of the journey[?]. Wouldn't we see a horde of burkhas on the streets of Portland here, or at the border into Vancouver?

Barefoot, I have this thread filed under "Slow Friday Afternoon Alarms." The only reason I'm responding to it was that I got an actual *phone call* alerting me to the thread and asking for further research. That's why I headed it "FYI" and "Rumor."

I debated for an hour before posting it here, and then decided that it wouldn't hurt.

Onward.

You're right, doesn't hurt. LOL

I know there is a mosque nearby, but it isn't on the way to anywhere I want to be going anytime soon, so I won't know if it's closed or not.

I suspect that, like any other house of worship, they have their days when they are open, and days when they are shut. Unless that poster is trying, badly, to say that the buildings are sealed up with boards and barbed wire or something.

I dread having to work New Year's Eve. If it is anything like Christmas Eve, the drive to work and then back home will be a nightmare. At least on Christmas Eve the people were just drunk and on the phone while driving around looking for that last minute gift or dinner item. New Year's Eve they'll have their guns out, too!

No matter how many times it is said, and no matter how many laws they pass prohibiting it, there is always some idiot somewhere who shoots up into the air in celebration. I can only hope that their aim is straight and the wind is right so the bullet comes right back down on their head. One less idiot to deal with next year.

Barefoot, I know what you mean! During the early 80s recession, I worked in a hospital ("bottle washer"), and New Year's Eve was among the worst holidays. Between the idiots coming in with bullet wounds and Coke bottles jammed up their private places, I figured there were few sane people left.

These days, I spend New Year's at home, inside, watching a movie. This year, I'll probably still be painting.

Okay, gotta go this time. Lots of folks upset by that post. Got a ton of email in the last hour. Shheessshhh!

will send Loon Private email....I will be back..I am on and off here today, lots going on in real life.

The mosques should be open for Friday prayers around sunset. The warning is a bit vague, isn't it?

-- Anonymous, December 28, 2001

Yep. Looks like an internet rumor. What upset a number of my correspondents was the location. Apparently, there's an underlying concern that this area is a major target. I don't happen to agree, but my opinion is worth the paper it's currently written on. (;

Back to painting. I was alerted to that thread through a phone call. Perhaps I need to shut off the phone. (;

Thanks, SAR. Loon wrote some observations on the the TB2K thread.

I hope that your health holds and that you have the strength to deal with your various trials and tasks.

This one looks to be totally unsubstantiated. However, I would take an actual change in routine by American Muslims as a very big clue.

I'm unplugging the phone, and I'll be offline for the next several days: I''m going to try to finish about 8 days' worth of work in 4 . . . I suspect there will be a number of "rumors" such as the one that ended up side-tracking me for most of yesterday (my own fault).

I don't believe that we in Columbus, at least, face major risks. If anything does happen, I'll hear about it -- I do have various radios on in the background.

Happy New Year! Stay Safe! There are still enough home-grown idiots who drink and drive and drink and shoot off guns to cause problems -- may they all do that stuff well away from all of you!
