If you want more food in less space, with less work, for more months of the year, and a beautiful landscape to boot, read

Gaia's Garden - A Guide to Home-Scale Permaculture Design by Toby Hemenway. Published by Chelsea Green.

This well-written and illustrated book explains how you can build a better garden by:

1)learning from nature and imitating her plant and animal communities for increased yield and fertility, and decreased disease and pest problems.

2)designing the layout of your property to minimize work, undesireable views, wildlife nuisance, and other negative features, and maximize use of rainfall, sunlight, terrain, and other features.

3)planting perrenial varieties of some of your old favorites, and establishing imported perrenials to extend season and reduce dependence on tillers/tractors, feeds, and other inputs.

4)more you will have to discover for yourself.

Happy Gardening!
