New Years Eve Fun

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Country Families : One Thread

Celebrating New Years Eve is kind of fun, so I thought I would tell you about ours. I always cook a Chinese Supper.

I stir fry chicken with garlic and onions. Stir fry vegetables, make fried rice, make homemade egg rolls. I use store bought egg roll wrappers and shredded cabbage in mine, with some soy sauce (low salt version) For dessert we have baked bananas ( slice bananas lenghtwise, drizzle with honey and nutmeg, bake in warm oven about 10-15 minutes, until honey is bubbly) fried pineapple rings, (melt 1 TB butter and fry pineapple until golden brown), and I buy fortune cookies (the kids like these and have fun reading the little quotes inside)

After we eat we will play board games, write our resolutions on fancy paper, and wait until midnight, then we have a glass of sparkly apple cider, or grape juice. It is fun and the kids enjoy it!

Let us know your traditions!

It's going to be pretty quiet here at GloryHill Farm! We'll watch a bit of TV and snack some. I'll be amazed if we stay up until midnight! We get up early in the morning and us old folks need our rest! Happy New Year!

Just another night.

We're having a party at church and eating the traditional meal of peas and cornbread. If I have enough collards I'll bring a pot. We will probably sing and play games. We had an awesome service last night where people just shared what God had done in their lives this past year.

Normally it is just another night for us. But since it is the last day for the museum to be open til we move to the new building in May, It has been suggested by the big boss that I am in attendance for the new years family party. It is expected to be a good time. After that I will probably just go home and sleep through the New Year. Tomorrow Mom's coming to keep the kids til Sunday.

For the last 7 years it has been lots of finger food, a movie of popular choice. We usually stay up until midnight, then go outside and say our resoulutions out loud. We usually have a few close family or friends over, but this year it is just my Mom, Dad, me and John Michael. I remember Y2K-everyone came to our house, because we were "prepared"-actually that's the way we live, but everyone thought we were just prepared. They all still give me a hard time, but when ever anything happens I am the first and last stop for those without water, electricity,etc...I am hoping this year is quiet and relaxed!!!
