Something To Think On For The New Year ???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Here is a question that I asked my husband to think on for a couple of days and tell me what he thinks. I'd like to know what you all think of this !!! If there was one thing that you wanted to do before you were too old or before you died....what would it be ??? Might sound a bit morbid to some but I figure New Year's Eve is a good time to think of what we might want to truly experience before the years pass us by !! Happy New Year To All !!!!!!

I am going on a 50 mile competitive trail ride[horses] And I dont think having a goal is morbid at all. 50 miles on a horse is a long ride but something I want to do.

I want to spend two or three weeks on a riding (horses) tour of Ireland. Riding real Irish hunters would be a thrill of a lifetime for me. Someday....

First and foremost to contribute to the continued growth and independence of children with severe disabilities and finish by book on teaching students with severe disabilities. I almost had that thought last June when the dr found a lump in my left lung during a routine exam for my heart. It turned out to be OK, but it woke me up.

Then I would like to hopefully make it financially with our dairy and cheesemaking business so i can help others. But there is one thing I would love to accomplish, breeding at least one Alpine dairy Goat National Grand Champion and to have some does in the top ten. Thats about it.

To have all of my brothers, sisters, mothers(real and step) and father be together in one place at the same time.

I am 41-years-old and have yet to have my family all together in one place. I have eight brothers and seven sisters. Although legally some are step brothers and sisters in my heart they are no less brothers and sisters than my blood siblings. Also, my step mother raised me as much as my blood mother did and she is every bit as much my mother as the one who gave me birth.

And someday I hope to have my book about growing up poor in the country with all my siblings will be finished. It is a promise I made to my little brother who has A.I.D.S. I'm real close to finishing it. I hope that my brother lives to see the book finished and then I hope he keeps on living.

What a timely post! This year more than ever, I have frequently had similar thoughts. 1st and foremost: to be completely honest with myself and true to my dreams and expectations for my life, everything else is secondary.

Die? Who's going to die? seriously, I spend every day doing something I want to do before I die..... live each day to the fullest and learn some little something during every one. :>)

Helena,

Interesting question. I suppose it's possible that some folks may not believe it, but after an article I read in readers digest several years ago, I made a list of 50 things to do before I died. I've probobly gotten 10 marked off, but I try to work in one off the list as I can. I'm 29 now, so maybe I'll get it halfway done before I go, eh??

I'm working on one now. Getting ready to start school again (college) on Jan. 16 to finish my degree. (RN)

Peace, Love, and Light in the new year.

My ultimate goal/dream would be to win the Indianapolis 500.

I want to finish the Tevis, the toughest 100 mile endurance ride in the world. It will take more money than I can spend right now, but someday... meanwhile I'll stick to the 50 milers in my region and learn all I can....

My husband just hates that since I went to work for Hopsice I have NO ability to defer gratification at all...I think a long distance hike, possibly the Northern Trail, or Continental Divide. Oh, and maybe someday, to learn to play the bagpipes. Otherwise, I am too busy with gardening, grandchildren, and teaching backpacking and canoing skills to my Boy Scouts for a return trip to Northern Tier BSA High Adventure Camp in Michigan/Canada to worry about the future.

Forgot to mention, I'm going to find a Mandolin and learn how to play!

Find our homestead and build our "ideal" home on it complete with garden, animals, etc. Yup . . . that would be it I believe. Wood heat, clean water, etc etc etc.

Then live there peacefully and comfortably with enough money to tide us over till "the end".

*sigh*
