West Virginia University converts chicken manure to diesel!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I just heard this on the CBC, via the internet and just wanted to pass it along. It seems like a dream, finally come true.

Researchers at West Virginia University, http://www.nis.wvu.edu/releases/DieselFowl.htm, have developed a way to convert animal manure into a fuel for diesel engines. They are partnering with Louis Hamrick of Northco Corp. of Morgantown on this project, to design and build the equipment necessary to make this a reality on the farm.

Sure makes you wonder what the exhaust fumes smell like.

That's not new! Folks have been using all their critter's manure to make fuel for a long time. Those who've had an illegal booze still in the past use them to make fuel. I've talked to folks who haven't bought gasoline for their vehicles and farm equipment for many years.
