I just got seeds at $.50 pk

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

A local store had gotten the old seeds off the shelf in preparation for the new shipment of seeds, and they said I could get as much as I wanted for $.50 a pack! They were last years, of course, but I have always had good luck with seeds that were 2-3 years old and I got most of next years seeds at a VERY good price!

Good for you! Way to score! You just have to plant thicker in the row with older seeds, in case the germination rate isn't what it should be. Don'cha just feel good all over when you save a bundle and then save again when you serve it?

Well I must of hit the jackpot. I found last years seed at 10 for $1.00. We will see how they do.

Our Dollar General stores always sell Bentley Seed Inc. seeds 10 for $1. I wait till they close out for the season and buy them 20 or 30 for a dollar clearance. I wish I could get a picture of the clerks look when I do that though.

Tractor Supply Company had seeds last year that were THAT years seeds- no hold overs- for 10 cents a pack. (add to that my wifes 10 percent discount, and were doing business!) Watch for this this upcoming spring. I had great luck with the seeds- everything but the canatalopes did great. Each pack planted (for the most part) a 50 foot row. The corn did not germinate as well as I would have liked and I had to replant these, but that was just one variety of corn that did that.

Let's be neighborly and post when seeds are on sale! Jay--is Dollar General's big sale in July or so?

I went to the local TSC recently and they were GIVING away last years seed packets including POUNDS of green bean and pea seeds. (don't really care for peas that much but I figure I can grow some over the next several years...) The selection wasn't that great but the green beans were Blue Lake. Didn't say bush beans on the pound plastic bag but that's just fine with me. I helped clean up a department store that went out of business and got some of the wire grids used for displaying clothing. Used along with the "foot" pieces makes wonderful trellises. Germination can be better for year old seeds anyway. Anyway, GREAT forage, Terri!!

And if any one in wv decides to go purchase some- --save some for me!!!! Oh and one more, dollar tree has gladiolus bulbs 6 in a package for 1.00 WOW
